“Hello. I am RK800, an advanced prototype. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
“It’s a little goofy looking.” The customer crossed his arms. RK800 frowned. The customer chuckled in surprise.
“I think it looks cool!” For the first time, RK800 noticed a young boy with the customer. The boy stepped forward and placed his hands on the android’s feet and looked up at him. “Can we get it, Dad?”
“I just have to know –-can you take care of my son? That’s all I need. Someone to cook his meals when I can’t, homework, bath, and stuff like that. Can you do that?”
“Yes.” RK800 nodded.
“Then we’ll take it.”
The young boy grabbed RK800’s hand and pulled him after his father and the salesman. RK800 stopped to step down from his display case and follow. The boy smiled up at him.
“Hello, Robot! My name’s Cole Anderson.”
“Hello, Cole.” RK800 smiled. “My name is Connor.”

Hank just wanted help around the house for Cole. He never expected such a goofy thing that laughed and hummed and protected Cole with all of his being. Connor is not like other androids --but neither of them truly know how deep those differences go.

Summary
It’s deathly quiet, but if North shuts her eyes and focuses, she can hear the distant thrum of the city, its lights pulsating purple across her eyelids. She raises her chin up to the sky and relaxes her shoulders as she breathes in. Markus says nothing, his hand a gentle, but half hearted weight in her own. When North opens her eyes, he is staring out at the city before them.
There is a question looming over their heads, but neither goes to voice it. They have mutually decided to let it stay, festering in the silence between them. North finds that she can phrase it perfectly as well as never begin to wrap her head around it.
It is one question. But it is a heavy one.
Markus looks at her with a smile. It’s tender, and full of love, but something in the set of his lips is off. She looks at him, and is unable to smile back. She only squeezes his hand, and looks at the Detroit skyline.

Summary
It is in his duality that Markus wished that he had known Connor long before the night the two met in Jericho. It is in his sheer rigidity and nothingness when facing their people that Markus wished that he could force everyone to see how hard Connor was working for their cause. While Josh’s pacifism and peaceful approach guided them to achieve a semblance of understanding with the humans, it didn’t quite quell North’s worries that humans would never want to understand those they have created, those who are lesser than them. Simon’s aversion to conflict and his healthy fear of humans’ much sinister nature helped them to exercise caution in their conduct but did not provide a solution on how to deal with it. But what they all lacked, Connor would fulfil.

Markus realised he didn’t like the ironic duality of Connor’s life. To be treated like a stranger in the halls of his people and yet treated as a fellow companion in the precinct that had registered him as mere police equipment.

One instance of sleeping together turned into several, the sexual tension burst between them as they stole more and more time together beyond their professional obligations. From idle chatter long after their business concluded to late-night calls and messaging when one or both of them were kept up for one reason or another. His gaze naturally drew on the detective whenever he led a meeting, chin in hand as Markus perhaps stared a bit overly long.

“Guess I’m not really looking for friends right now.”
Connor looks at the bottle in Hank’s hand, and the time of day, and the fact that this was his first stop after work on a route that veritably leads back to his home on Michigan Drive, and he wants to somehow connect those things to the notion that Hank maybe seems like someone who could use a friend right now, and maybe Connor could use a friend in this new world too, but there’s no way to articulate any of that without revealing too much about himself or too much about what he knows of Hank. So he remains stuck on the other side of that wall and says, “Okay.”
“Hey… another time, maybe.”
It’s the kind of hollow sentiment people offer one another when there’s nothing left to say. Still, Connor echoes it. “Another time.”
[Alternatively: With access to the quantum calculator, Amanda leads Connor to the DPD months before his time. And Hank, well... Hank keeps running into this weird kid who works for Cyberlife...]

Markus learns that attraction scrambles his circuits a little when one of the cutest grown men he's ever seen walks into the meeting room of Jericho, looking like a puppy who had been kicked until it bit back, and the first thing Markus can think to do is to throw out a bunch of stupid pick-up lines to cheer him up.
Connor, meanwhile, is a little too literal for most pick-up lines to make sense, but finds that he's oddly enjoying himself anyway.
