Pearl’s plan is simple. Chase Scott, fight him one on one, kill him, get Scar to kill her for the extra ten hearts, pray Scar kills Gem and wins.
At the last moment, however, just before her arrow hit her target, Gem raised her blade and struck him down, stealing Scott’s life for herself.
Pearl didn't kill him.

The chest wasn’t heavy enough to contain real treasure. Still, something about it called to Sabo, loud enough to drown out the instincts he had worked hard to hammer into his own head. He took a small piece of metal out of his pocket and carefully inserted it into the lock. It took him a couple minutes of finicky prodding before he heard a click. He yanked the lock open and pried it off, an odd feeling of anticipation rising in his chest. The chest creaked as Sabo cracked it open with rust-covered hands.
Inside, he found a fruit.
OR Sabo gains a devil fruit power as a child. Some things change, some stay the same.
