“I see,” he said, even though he didn’t. He glanced over at the forgotten maps stuck underneath Scar’s leg and connected the dots. “You’re an Imagineer, then?”

Scar beamed proudly, flicking his hat again. “Imagineer Scar, at your service!”

When a visit to Disneyland leaves Grian fifth-wheeling his friends, he’s glad to find some respite on his own—until a smooth-talking Disney Imagineer comes crashing into his life.

    Summary

There, in the early morning sun, stands Scar—still shirtless, his back to Grian. His wings have dried out during the night, and Grian was right, those feathers need preening—but they're still stunning. Scar’s wings are massive, his wingspan stretching out what looks like almost twice his length.

At first Grian thinks they're yellow, like a canary. There's a joke at the tip of his tongue. Then he steps closer and they shimmer golden underneath the light. Grian stares at them, fascinated.

“Damn,” he breathes out, and Scar startles and spins around. His wings get in the way and he stumbles, almost falling to the ground if it wasn’t for Grian holding him up.

“Oops,” Scar laughs sheepishly. “Hi, Grian.”

“Hi, Scar,” Grian smiles, exasperated but fond. “How are you feeling?”

“Better,” Scar says, and his wings slowly flex. “I, uh. Might have wrecked our home a bit. Thrown some furniture around. Accidentally. These are so unwieldy, I don’t know how you don’t walk around constantly knocking things over.”

“You mostly get used to it,” Grian says, amused.

    Summary

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.

“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”

With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

    This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.

“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

    Summary

Grian hadn't ever been expecting someone to follow through on courting ritual with him. He'd been crushing hard on his co-worker turned crime-fighting partner for years at this point, and Scar certainly had no idea that avians had that sort of thing. Specific little thoughtful gestures that would send a sign that whoever was doing the deed was interested. And as much as Grian would adore being spoiled by Scar performing all these little things that made his wings ruffle under his red sweater, pleased and basking in the attention, he knew it would never happen. Scar didn't know about avian courtship ritual.
    He didn't.
Grian knew that he didn't know.
So if he didn't, why was he doing every ritual so perfectly?

    {In which Scar stumbles ass-backward into performing all 5 of the typical avian courtship gestures in his attempts at wooing Grian, Grian is desperately trying to convince himself he's still in the friend zone, Jimmy's busy having his own relationship crisis, and Pearl will meddle all she needs if it'll get these idiots together already.}
