This was usually where Zoro would blow him off, sneer under his breath about how Mihawk didn’t know a thing, and then go to fight some monkeys.
But, special was not the word to describe Luffy. He was limitless in his possibilities, his presence. He was everything and everywhere and Zoro was nothing without him.
“He is.” Zoro said, and he had never meant anything more.
Or: Zoro has known Luffy through several lifetimes. He loves him in every single one.

Zoro had been this way for as long as he could remember. Once he set sail from Shimotsuki, he never lingered long in one place. No one wanted him around — an omega who could not obey.
“Fuck off,” Zoro replied.
Luffy’s smile didn’t fade. He got close, and Zoro braced himself to ward off another compulsion attempt.
Three seconds passed, and rather than confronting a mental onslaught, Zoro was being freed.
“I’m still not going to join your crew.”
“Yeah, you will!”
Parched and exhausted, Zoro bit back, “You can’t compel me into going with you either.”
Luffy stood shamelessly inside his personal space, so close Zoro could see the genuine confusion in his glimmering brown eyes when he asked, “What are you talking about?”
Only then did Zoro realize he couldn’t pick up even a hint of a scent from the man, alpha or omega.
Takes some inspiration from the live action. Includes spoilers up to the end of Water Seven/Enies Lobby. Now complete and edited.
