Max pried her eyes open, heart dropping. "Wha-" she choked out, bright fluorescent lights blinding her for a few precious seconds. She knew that smell, she knew those lights, and she knew the blurry face that was rapidly swimming into focus. "What are you doing? Why am I back in the School?"
"Oh, Max," Jeb sighed, shaking his head. His eyes were cold, dead, emotionless. He suddenly smiled, and the expression reminded her vividly of a shark.
