Zuko becomes Sokka’s swordmaster, Katara’s waterbending master, and Aang’s firebending master. He also commits multiple accidental treasons and saves their lives a couple times. He swears he is not on their side though, clearly still an enemy. They were accidental treasons they don’t count.

Virgil took a sip of his coffee, watching idly as the Duke dodged Prince's fist and fired back a a punch of his own, straight into the Prince's face. The panes of the shop windows rattled. “I hate them,” he mumbled to the cup. “This is the worst morning.”
“You’re supposed to make ramen yourself!” an explosion boomed. “There's more to it than boiled water!”
"They could just. Leave me alone."
"You are the worst!"

Yes, Zuko knows that it's his fault. Now though, he is travelling with Uncle throughout the Earth Kingdom to find them, all while trying to avoid the sister hunting him down. The way is treacherous and littered with friends and enemies alike. The hot headed teen is faced time and time again with danger, both natural and born of his own making.
At least he isn't alone.
