Beverly is excellent at solving mysteries and for the past few days, she has had a theory that something is brewing between Will and Dr. Lecter.
It's the glances. Yes, Dr. Lecter never takes his eyes off Will, and Will, in turn, is making such an effort not to return the looks. It's not the only clue, though. Beverly has also noticed that the doctor is always by Will's side, unnecessarily standing too close to the most grumpy and reclusive guy she knows.

Will's greatest fear is that Hannibal might love him intensely, want to consume his mind and body, but not desire him sexually. Sure, Will knows Hannibal slept with Alana and probably Bedelia too. But both were part of his schemes. And he is so murky for his empathy that Will can’t quite read him well enough to understand if sexual desire is part of his character, or if his pathology makes him incapable of feeling something so vulgar.

Now, or seconds before, Hannibal, without looking up from the preparation in one of the pans, has asked him to julienne the tomatoes and, instead of using his name (which he likes to use so fucking much), he called Will darling.

At this point, he doesn't care if Hannibal is incapable of loving him, he settles for this. Maybe Will can have his family, have Hannibal, and maybe it will be enough to keep the alpha entertained for longer, the necessary time.
