Summary
Desperate for protection from the Wen sect, the Jiang sect sent out two proposals to the Jin and Lan sects respectively. When the Lan sect agrees to their terms, Wei Ying finds himself married to an alpha whose name he doesn't know and whose face he never sees. But that's okay because Wei Ying is great at deductive reasoning and he was able to figure out that he had been married off to none other than Lan Qiren. If that's not bad enough, apparently Lan Zhan (Wei Ying's favorite Lan) is also married and his omega is neglecting him. Even though his own marriage is a sham and he's found himself all alone, he doesn't want the same fate for his friend. But how can the two of them be happy with things as they are?

The weight on Lan Wangji increases abruptly, and his hands aren't touching soft fur anymore, they're touching soft skin—bare skin—and he's looking down into Xiao-Hei's yellow, slitted eyes, though not into Xiao-Hei's little cat face, but the face of a man.
A beautiful, startled, very naked man.
Or: Lan Wangji finds himself with a stray cat he didn't want, then a stray cultivator he pretends not to want, and then a stray boyfriend he definitely wants.

Wei Wuxian grits his teeth, knowing he has no other choice. Not if it means Lan Zhan’s life. Besides, the Cloud Recesses has the best library and a long history of dealing with curses. It’s the most logical choice, even if he’d like to punch logic in the face right now.

He gives him a grim smile. “Looks like you’re finally getting your wish, Lan Zhan.”
Lan Zhan stares back at him, expression blank.

The Wen remnants—those survivors whom Wei Wuxian had pulled from certain death, defying the righteous sects in the process—were still a contentious topic. The fact that they had not attempted any retaliation, that they lived in this forsaken place away from the prying eyes of the world, did not erase the fear their name invoked. The sects had their grudges, deep-rooted and bitter.
Or, Lan Qiren goes to Yiling to determine whether the information he’s been fed adds up to the reality of it.

“Four summers ago,” Nie Mingjue repeated. “What are your parents’ names?”
“My mama is Cangse Sanren and my baba is Wei Changze,” Wei Ying told him, and recognition registered in Nie Mingjue’s eyes.
“Wei Ying,” Nie Mingjue said, sounding a bit regretful, “Your parents aren’t coming back.”
Or, Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang run into Wei Ying while in Yiling and decide to bring him home. And it changes everything. -
