“Hey, you made it!” He jumped at the call from behind him.
He whipped around to see a man he recognized from their Zoom call. Voluminous chestnut hair, only a bit longer than most guys would typically wear theirs. Broad shoulders that weren’t out of place on his frame. An undeniably handsome man in a henley with black sweats walking toward him with a grin. “Yeah, barely.” He said, leaning back and earning not one, but two pops.
The man he knew to be Steve Harrington lets out a hearty laugh. “Well let’s get your shit upstairs before you drop dead on me.”

Eddie had long lived underneath a crust of unease. Never able to feel at home in his skin.
When his college shuts down his program, he is forced to transfer across the country. He didn't think his shell would start to chip away as he crossed the California state line. Didn't expect that it was himself he'd find in the two bedroom apartment. And he certainly didn't think he'd find home in the man with whom he shared a lease.

The taller boy lets out a huff of air. "Jeez, I've been thinking about this for like a year. You'd think I would have planned out what I was going to say by now." Mike says, running a hand through his already messy black hair.
"Nothing to be scared of." Will assures his friend. "It's just me." He and Mike have been through plenty of times far more harrowing than a conversation. Even conversations Will had had nightmares about for years always turned out better than expected. There's nothing Mike could say to him that should spark more fear than a Demogorgon or the choice to come out to all his loved ones at once.
Still, Mike laughs nervously. "Yeah, it is you." He licks his lips and the brunette does his best not to track the movement. "Okay. So. I guess I've just been doing a lot of thinking since you told us all about you. You know, about you being gay."

Summary
Steve Harrington represented everything Eddie hated about modern commercialized theatre. He seemed to be little more than a jock who was dragged into a school musical because they didn’t have enough boys, and stayed for the ego boost. His mere existence went against everything he found right in the world. It’s Eddie’s absolute nightmare when they are cast in a play where they are required to be a near perfect mirror image of each other.

Eddie and Steve are cast in roles where they must be perfectly in sync. Chrissy just hopes to survive rehearsals.

Rozanov cocked his head. “You speak Russian? Or just the curse words?”
“Yes, I speak Russian,” he snapped, defensive and angry. He knew that it had been a mistake to even try to be friendly with Rozanov. “Why? Do I not look Russian to you?” He scoffed.
“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”
“Go fuck yourself.”

Despite an inauspicious start, when Russia’s Ilya Rozanov learns that Canada’s Shane Hollander is fluent in Russian at their first World Junior Championships tournament, it changes everything and sets them on a different course. Instead of being branded as rivals from the very beginning, Ilya and Shane start off as friends.
And, after all, a little friendly rivalry never hurt anyone, did it?

Summary
No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

“You will not be so nice when we beat you,” Ilya told Shane Hollander, holding onto his hand, not letting him pull away. Not yet.
But Hollander’s brow furrowed, not in anger but in confusion. “Ah, um, sorry,” Hollander said. “Merci. My English is bad. Worse… than you. Maybe slower?” And he leaned in, like that would help him understand.
Ilya’s eyebrows rose, and his smile widened.
Or, Ilya Rozanov grew up in Russia. Shane Hollander was raised in France. When they first meet, neither of them can speak English very well. Somehow, it’s easier to understand each other when words aren’t getting in the way.
(Stand-alone remix of “I’m Reading Your Lips (You’re Speaking My Language)” but this time neither of them are native English speakers, and learning a new language is sort of like falling in love, if you think about it.)
