Summary
It was natural, he told himself, working up the courage to pluck the plushie off the shelf. It didn’t mean anything, it was a coping mechanism and was just as valid as any other, albeit a bit less typical. It also made sense in connection to the lack of exploration he was allowed to do in his childhood and the responsibilities that were forced upon him at a young age.
OR: where the stress is catching up to Spencer and he realizes he subconsciously is showing symptoms of a coping mechanism, and has to battle with his own mind to convince himself that it is alright for him to explore it, and the relief it gives him.
(He refuses to call the mechanism what it is until he can confirm because embarrassed...)Series

“Rahh!!!” Spencer jumps out from behind the wall he was hiding behind, with his foot poking out but don’t tell him that, showing off his new batman onesie his Papa got him. Aaron holds a hand over his heart, forging a shocked look, and he sighs a breath of relief at the sight of his little boy
“Spence! You scared me!” Aaron explains, continuing the dramatics for the little boy’s entertainment. Spencer’s jaw dropped, alarming Aaron that he made a mistake, and a shy little whisper comes;
“How did you know it was me?”
or Spencer’s latest hyper fixation is Batman, and he’s MAKING SURE his Papa loves it too.
