Summary
When Shane strides out from the history shelves, he turns towards the back table and hopes to see the usual piles of books and forgotten pages.
What he gets instead is all those books and notes and some guy picking carefully through that fucking Sasquatch book and scribbling something down on one of the sheets Shane has probably put away and—
Shane momentarily loses his mind. Instead of taking the common sense route and hauling ass back to the help desk to get Sara or to hide, his stupid, long legs walk him up to the table and his stupid, smart aleck mouth makes him blurt out into the otherwise quiet library:
“If you think that the ghost of Richard Ramirez haunts the Cecil Hotel, you’re out of your goddamn mind.”
Or, Shane works at his university's library and, through a series of unfortunate events, meets Ryan Bergara, who believes in ghosts, not using a productive organization system for his notes, and that Amelia Earhart was abducted by aliens. Maybe most unfortunately, all of these things make Shane fall for him faster than Ryan can say: "The Whaley House is haunted."

“No,” Shane wails. “I’m in love with him!”
A beat of silence, and then Steven sighs.
“This is going to be a long fucking year. It’s only mid-September, Madej.”

In the middle of senior year, Ryan Bergara moves to town, strides into school with a leather jacket and a motorcycle helmet, gives everyone the same cool, piercing look, and laughs with a sweet lunch lady all on his first day.
Shane is maybe a little smitten.

“I still don't really get why you like it so much, though. It’s cold and… wet.”
“Water isn’t wet.”
“I’m not starting this conversation with you again.”

“Since we’ve all been working really hard this year, the higher-ups have allowed us to take it kind of easy this month. Which means: we get to partake in some friendly and healthy holiday season festivities together.”
This sends a ripple of excitement throughout the office. They’ve always been really busy around the holidays, and the most they get to do is have an office party after hours one night in December and maybe decorate their desks in their down time. The thought of doing fun holiday activities during work with all of his coworkers melts the annoyance out of Ryan’s body immediately, and he finds himself grinning with Steven and Jen like they weren’t just seconds away from strangling each other.
“What that really means,” Quinta cuts in, clapping her hands together. “Is that we’re going to cram as much Christmas spirit into these next few weeks as we can because they might never let us do it again.”

Ryan's bosses hold a series of Christmas-themed competitions in the office, and along the way he learns about the true meaning of Christmas, experiences how satisfying it is to prove TJ wrong, and possibly wins himself a boyfriend.

He can’t believe he’s hearing this come out of Shane’s mouth. He says as much out loud. “I can’t believe this. You think I’m a wimp? Even throughout all of the demon encounters and my rippling muscles?”
Shane snorts loudly. “Ryan, I love your muscles. But they don’t make you brave if you aren’t willing to do daring things, like bungee jumping or skydiving.”
“But I’d punch the fuck out of someone if they ever tried to hurt you. That’s brave, right?”
His boyfriend’s face softens, and he risks letting go of the wheel with one hand to give Ryan’s left bicep a nice, hard squeeze. “That’s real chivalrous of you, Hercules, but I was talking about being adventurously brave, not adrenaline-fueled brave.”
Or, shockingly, Ryan and Shane's sex life gets an upgrade because of a silly little argument they have one night in the car.

Shane gets the call at 2:51 in the morning.
“‘Lo?”
“Madej, I need you here immediately.”
In some other lifetime, it would have taken Shane at least twenty minutes to wake up from a call like this. But after seven years of working at a hospital, he’s almost coherent by the time the call hits the ten second mark.
“What happened?” Shane asks, pushing himself up with a groan.
On the other end, there’s a slight pause, and then Quinta’s strained, tight voice tells him: “There was a fire.”
Or, Shane is an ER nurse who gets called in to help with the aftermath of a huge fire and discovers that no one knows what has happened to his firefighter partner.

“I thought I imagined it,” Ryan says eventually, still looking at the other side of the woods. “I had to know.”
For a moment, there’s nothing but the wind in the trees. And then he hears the low growl that’s haunted his every passing thought for days. The creature creeps closer, a rumbling noise following the growl. It sounds threatening, but also confused.
“Know what?” it hisses, close enough that Ryan can feel when it speaks, and then he turns around.
He turns around, looks up into those piercing eyes, and says: “I had to know why you didn’t kill me.”
Or, Ryan moves to Michigan to find himself again, and ends up finding more than he could have ever bargained for.

Summary
Eddie Munson isn't very good at puzzles.
Well.
He can make them, sure, in the form of weeks-long campaigns for his bandmates and a ragtag group of now sophomores he'd come to adore. He's great at making them. Great at making villains that his party thought they'd had figured out, beaten, only to make a quick 180 and have them come back from the dead for a final, earth-shattering fight. Yeah. He can make them.
What Eddie Munson can't do when it comes to puzzles, is figure them the fuck out. Especially, it seems, when the puzzle comes in the form of a boy one year younger than him and slightly shorter when you don't count his mass of gorgeous hair that makes him, falsely, look taller than Eddie. This puzzle had saved the world with him, had saved him when he was sure he was a goner.
The puzzle's name, of course, is Steve Harrington. King Steve, to many, Hawkins High's golden boy, rich and charming and apparently, a fucking badass.
Eddie never stood a chance.

Eddie doesn't particularly like the smell of blood.
However, he's growing awfully used to it.
It’s what he’s choosing to focus on. The smell of it. How it burns his nose. Clings heavy in his throat and fills his lungs with its thick, metallic haze.
That is, when he can breathe.
It’s awful hard to breathe.
But he’s trying. God fucking damn it, he’s trying. And it hurts worse than anything, worse than the bites or the torn flesh or the aching all over. It burns worse than the smell. He can’t tell if it’d be easier to breathe through his nose or his mouth, so he just sort of heaves with his mouth open and hopes that air gets in somehow.
He might be dying.
Steve says he’s not dying, very insistent on that, in fact, but Eddie’s not sure if he believes him.

Summary
There’s a few things Eddie notices when he wakes up.
One, he bites his tongue. It hurts. Of course. The weird thing, though, is he doesn’t taste blood. But he knows he bit it hard and it’s throbbing behind his teeth. He tastes something, and his mouth feels wet but there’s no metallic flavor (metal. He likes metal. He’s remembering). It’s smoother. More earthy.
Two. He’s alone. Completely. No Dustin. Or Robin or Nancy or Steve or anyone.
Three. He’s sore. His whole body aches, his skin is thrumming with it. His neck especially, and his sides like where Steve was bitten, too.
Four. He’s got to blink a couple times to realize this one. Let his eyes adjust from the pitch black of being closed to the dim blue haze of the Upside Down. Yeah, that’s what he realizes. He’s still there.
Five. He’s fuckin’ starving.
In which Eddie wakes up with sharp teeth, Steve has a thing for tongue piercings, and it takes a while for them to figure out what all of that means.

It's surprisingly better than Eddie expected, to be with someone who paid attention and loved him for all his worth. Except, Steve shows his love in a way that takes some getting used to.
Or - 5 times Steve said "I love you" to Eddie without really saying it, and the 1 time it came so beautifully out of his mouth.

Steve can feel his throat tightening up again, threatening to suffocate him. He almost wants to, to drop to his knees and just let Eddie humiliate him but, as always, he can fucking remember. His eyes close and he can remember looking up at Tommy H, doing his very fucking best, then being told not to get all weird about it. The memory stings and he brushes past Eddie, bumping his shoulder against him.
“You want me to tag the police station?” Steve says, whirling around with his arms wide. “I’ll tag the fucking police station.”
