A gorgeous traveler woman feeling the unwanted pressure of marriage and a lovely duchess trapped in the confines of a boring, unfulfilling wedlock. An abuse-scarred barmaid with a fiery spirit and a calm, collected bounty hunter with secrets weighting his shoulders. This is the order that the stories will present themselves, and although they are intertwined a little bit there will be almost no real contact between characters, just background pieces.

Summary
When Shane strides out from the history shelves, he turns towards the back table and hopes to see the usual piles of books and forgotten pages.
What he gets instead is all those books and notes and some guy picking carefully through that fucking Sasquatch book and scribbling something down on one of the sheets Shane has probably put away and—
Shane momentarily loses his mind. Instead of taking the common sense route and hauling ass back to the help desk to get Sara or to hide, his stupid, long legs walk him up to the table and his stupid, smart aleck mouth makes him blurt out into the otherwise quiet library:
“If you think that the ghost of Richard Ramirez haunts the Cecil Hotel, you’re out of your goddamn mind.”
Or, Shane works at his university's library and, through a series of unfortunate events, meets Ryan Bergara, who believes in ghosts, not using a productive organization system for his notes, and that Amelia Earhart was abducted by aliens. Maybe most unfortunately, all of these things make Shane fall for him faster than Ryan can say: "The Whaley House is haunted."

“What happened to him?” Steven asks, after getting all his stuff out of his backpack. “He looks Level 5 Distressed and it’s only been two hours since we’ve seen him.”
“He said that the new kid flirted with him,” Sara supplies. “And that he thinks he’s in love with him.”
“The new kid is in love with Shane?”
“No,” Shane wails. “I’m in love with him!”
A beat of silence, and then Steven sighs.
“This is going to be a long fucking year. It’s only mid-September, Madej.”

In the middle of senior year, Ryan Bergara moves to town, strides into school with a leather jacket and a motorcycle helmet, gives everyone the same cool, piercing look, and laughs with a sweet lunch lady all on his first day.
Shane is maybe a little smitten.

Summary
Shane's amazingly weird aunt raised him on stories about mythical creatures, like vampires and werewolves and faeries and mermaids, but he stopped believing in them after he grew up. Now he just likes to listen to and read the stories as a way to escape the everyday struggles of being a college student who rooms with Keith Habersberger.
That is, until he finds out for himself that maybe his Aunt Jenny was actually recounting some nonfiction tales to him.
Or, Shane finds an injured merman on the beach one afternoon and promptly loses his shit
