“Welcome to Howlers, thanks for choosing us for your intimate dining experience tonight.” Keith parrots the usual spiel in a complete and utter monotone, only emphasizing the parts he’d been trained to. He watches in irritation as the alpha looks up at him suddenly, apparently shocked he hadn’t noticed his approach. A wide smile dawns on the alpha’s face, beaming and bright, entirely too amicable for a stranger greeting a stranger. Keith sighs under his breath. “What can I get for you?”
“Well, I was thinking-”
“I’m not on the menu.” Keith interjects suddenly, perhaps with a bit more sharpness than he should have, but his patience is wearing thin tonight. The alpha seems taken aback for all of a second, before a quiet chuckle escapes his too soft, too pink lips. Keith’s eye twitches. “You’ve only used that line three times now, it’s getting a little predictable.”

Lance looks at him with wide eyes, completely confused by the question.
“I haven’t seen Keith smile like that in a while,” Shiro explains.
Oh. That makes Lance’s stomach swirl with something strange. He really shouldn’t be catching feelings for someone the first time they meet.
“I must be really funny,” Lance offers.

Lance's life is crumbling in on him, like it does for most high schoolers, but one broken down car and a motorcycle ride with a hot stranger later, things seem to be looking up just a bit.

“Hunk, don’t look now, be discreet about it... but there’s a really fucking hot guy sitting in your kitchen. I think it’s love at first sight.”
For a traitorous few seconds, something ugly rears itself in Keith’s chest and he wonders who just walked into the kitchen and stole Lance’s attention so thoroughly. But when he risks a sneaky glance up, it confirms that it’s still just the three of them in the room, and now Hunk is looking his way too with a sheepish sort-of smile. Keith practically crumples the plastic cup with how hastily he brings it to his lips, downing the last half of his drink all at once.
“Lance, I’m pretty sure he can hear you.”
“Good. Let him. Maybe he’ll take the hint and come introduce himself.”

Just don't stare, and just act like everything is normal.
Lance mustered up his most normal ‘I am totally not thinking of sweeping Keith off his feet just because he's a girl now’ face before he spoke as casually as possible.
(His breath may have caught a little in his throat when he made eye contact with Keith, but it didn't happen as long as he didn't acknowledge it.)
“So. Do you prefer to go by he/him or she/her now? Oh, but maybe you would prefer to go by my/mine?”
…
Not a muscle on Keith's face twitched.
What the cheese.
“What the fu-?” Keith had started to say, only to be cut off by Pidge deadpanning something along the lines of ‘that was painful to watch’ while Hunk defended Lance's honour with a sheepish ‘that's not his best line really’.
or to secure an alliance, Keith ended up alternating between being a girl and a boy for some time. It was a change of perspective for a certain someone. (Why does it take seeing girl Keith for Lance to see just how beautiful Keith himself is?)

If it were anybody else, Lance would think they’re messing with him for fun.
But Keith is Keith, straight-forward and guileless. If he’s touching Lance more, it’s only because he’s gotten more comfortable. And on one hand, that’s great, that’s—Lance feels very honored. His heart is doing backflips and aerial stunts and everything. On the other, this is really not helping with his raging crush.
His breaking point turns out to be when Keith, exhausted after a day of subspace meetings, drops his head onto Lance’s shoulder and sighs.
It’s a sigh that says, now I’m comfortable, that admits, I’m recharging, that practically screams, you help.
Hands in his pockets, he lets Lance bear his weight as if he trusts Lance to handle it. Great. That’s just—how dare he. How dare he be so vulnerable with Lance? Who does that?
It’s so enraging that Lance just blurts out, “I’m going to need you to stop doing this before I fall in love with you even more, asshole.”
Keith freezes.

Even Keith seemed a little afraid. “Truth.”
Smart man.
“Truth…who was your first kiss?” she asked, undeterred, before flopping back onto the floor with a grin.
Keith looked murderous. “Uh…I haven’t.”
“Huh?” Lance clarified, elegantly.
“I haven’t had my first kiss yet,” Keith mumbled.
“What?! But you were so cool at the Garrison!” Lance protested, suddenly feeling very sober, “And you’ve got that whole hot bad boy, brooding thing going!” okay, maybe not so sober.
Or: Paladin team bonding, Keith is a nerd™, and Lance falls in love.
