Following Issue #24 of Lost Light, Megatron returns home to Cybertron and makes his final request.
"Megatron... I once stood before the senate and gave a speech on your behalf. It was about freedom. And while you may have changed, I haven't. I'd give that same speech today. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. And freedom is about choice. And it seems entirely appropriate when called upon to decide whether a sentient being should live or die, that I offer the being in question the opportunity to choose. So, if Chief Justice Tyrest finds you guilty, what's it to be? Death, or imprisonment?"

My name is Max Eisenhardt. I’ve been a Sonderkommando at Auschwitz for two years. I’ve watched thousands of men, women and children walk to their deaths. I pulled their bodies from the gas chambers. I dug out their teeth so the Germans could take their gold. And I carried their bodies to the ovens, where I learned how to combine a child’s body with an adult to make them burn better. I saw my fellow workers buried alive under an avalanche of rotting corpses. I saw thousands of people burning in giant outdoor pits. I have seen at least a quarter million dead human beings with my own eyes... And I couldn’t save a single one... Anymore than they could save me. To everyone who finds this, I’m sorry. Because I’m dead. And now it’s up to you. Tell everyone who will listen. Tell everyone who won’t. Please. Don’t ever let this happen again.

Summary
Not once in his life had Whitestorm ever truly dreamed of holding power. His father had fought bitterly to prove himself worthy of the deputy position, even attempting to show his strength by lining their borders in blood. His aunt had desperately tried to present herself as a better option, even accepting the position during one of the most difficult times in her life. His own best friend had ranted endlessly about his plans to become leader, from kithood to the day he received his warrior name. Only today did he realize those plans had been so much more than a lonely kitten’s dreams.
Why, why did it have to be anything more than that? Why did he have to go as far as he did? And why, even after standing against him in his trial, did Whitestorm find it all so unbelievable?
Because some tiny, infantile piece of his heart would always belong to that little, tear-stained kit, smiling up at him and telling him he was his family.

There are a lot of things Optimus has forgotten since he was found half-dead in the wasteland. Most of his life, for one. His friends. The war he's fighting. Whatever it is that gives him the strength to get up every day and keep fighting it. But the more of his life he starts to relearn, the more sure he is that there's something else missing. Why won't anyone tell him what it is?
Megatron. His friends had mentioned that name by now, or recorded it in the files they gave him, but it came to him then from older memories. The part of his brain that knew his enemy flickered back to life, casting everything into a fresh light.
He didn't need to hear the feed to know what Megatron was saying. He didn't need Megatron to say it at all. He could hear it in his own spark. Get out there and stop him.
