Jin Guangyao knew that getting rid of Nie Mingjue won’t be easy, that he would want to punish Jin Guangyao even after his death; he just wasn’t expecting it to be a curse that forces Lan Xichen to feel when Jin Guangyao kills or orders others to kill someone.
As his father and Xue Yang both eagerly suggest, killing Lan Xichen would, of course, solve the problem. Jin Guangyao refuses to even consider the idea. But with Lan Xichen by his side, he will figure something out.

Meng Yao had finally achieved the pinnacle of power: he was the viceroy of Emperor Wen Ruohan, who conquered the cultivation world years ago - the Nie sect heirs having disappeared without a trace, the Jin compromised, the Lan crushed, the Jiang destroyed - and the Emperor had left him in complete charge in his absence.
Unfortunately, complete charge meant a complete headache. How was he supposed to get anything done when everyone else was scheming against him all the time? He needed help, and good help was so hard to find.
"Hold this," he said to a passing guard - something of a giant, with a tall frame, strong back, and broad shoulders, and handsome features to boot; just Meng Yao’s type. "It’s not that difficult. I only need your arms, not your brain, so just – do it. Whatever your name is!”

Wei Ying wrenches his hand away, nearly dropping the plate. It’s clearly been too long since he last slept with anyone if he’s having impure thoughts about his coworkers eating food at 3pm on a Wednesday.

“I’m in the middle of training,” Liu Qingge says in a clipped tone.
“That’s all right,” Shen Qingqiu says, flicking his fan in the air. “Go train, I’ll wait.”
Liu Qingge stares at him. “Wait?”
“Until you’re done, of course,” Shen Qingqiu says, as if it’s the most obvious thing. “I’ll find us some tea.”
Liu Qingge could have told Shen Qingqiu that his training would last all day. He could have informed him, brusquely, without care, that he dislikes having his rituals interrupted, that Shen Qingqiu would be waiting for the sun to cease its rise and fall, the mountains around them to crumble and fade.
Instead, he lets out a rush of air through his nose. “Fine. I will join you when I’m done.”
Shen Qingqiu’s face lights up, soft and pleased.
