Some of the bullets hit the ground near Wil, sending dirt flying, making Wil’s heart jump right into his throat. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” He yells, and he lunges for better cover nearby, only to fall short and collapse into the ground as something tears across the side of his head, sharp and burning hot.
He screams, he falls, and then he shrieks even higher when hands grab him and yank him to the side.
(Or, it's a zombie apocalypse. Traumatized skrunkles + very cold environment = hugs. For warmth. And also spontaneous adoption.)

Alex pushes his nose into Henry’s hair. ‘Having a physical form can be annoying sometimes,’ he agrees. There are days when neither of them can manage, where the dishes stack up and the clothes spill across the floor and email after email goes unanswered. ‘But it can be good too.’
