Summary
In a world where merfolk, trolls, and witches walk among us, the Unseen are no longer hiding from humans—but acceptance is still a distant dream for many.
Trent is a witch, and has been on a journey to unlearn the harmful lessons taught to him by his own community, and the humans who often look down on Unseen like him, so he can be a better father to his daughter Emily.
But after humans Ted and Beard let curiosity get the better of them they unintentionally hurt Trent by asking if the witch had ever tried to use his magic to Influence the Richmond Manager. This question hurts Trent, shakes his trust in Ted, and reopens old wounds.
Distraught and wishing he could rid himself of the emotions that only ever cause him pain Trent does something most magic users think is an old witches' myth:
He freezes his heart, and in turn starts to destroy his ability to love, feel, and create.Now Nelson Road must pull together to help resolve this horrible misunderstanding (and Ted's very obvious pining for Trent), before the curse Trent has laid upon himself becomes permanent and irreversible.

Trent blinks. He snorts. He drags his fingers through his hair and gathers it into a neater bun this time, securing it with the hair tie on his wrist. "Thank fuck," he says, his voice raw but honest.
(May 2023: This fic will not be updated further, but it will stay up for people to enjoy for what it is; short version the plan was they lived happily ever after. So, take the final chapter as the first step towards that.)

If he'd stayed a footballer, he doesn't know if he'd have made it to this age. He'd have been fucking miserable, he's rather sure— dealing with Dad, living in the public eye, pushing his body to its limits, never really getting a break. He'd not have found out that he actually is quite smart when he works for it, and that he can make proper friends who don't just follow him around because they think he's the shit. He'd not have found the sense of freedom and independence and normalcy that he's come to enjoy.
Going to uni was the right thing to do, and now he's off to work a job he loves, and he never has to fucking worry about scoring goals ever again. Life is perfect, he's quite sure.
