Tony sighs, turning his face away. He’s so tired. “I can’t build them that weapon, kid.”
Now it’s the kid’s turn to look confused. “Then build something else,” he says simply.

One moment, Red Hood was fighting with Black Mask, listening to the idiot go on about how he'd murder Jason long before he'd become a problem. The next... “How old am I?” Dick rephrases the question. Realistically, given the lines on Bruce's face and the grey in his hair, he has to be more than a decade or two in the future. But, well, Dick's still reeling from being twelve. He can't begin to imagine a world where there's anything past tomorrow.
Bruce's smirk sinks a little, but not quite to a frown. It's a distant smile, fighting through the shadows of whatever it is Bruce sees when he looks down at him. In a quiet, mournful tone, he says, “Not that old. Not old at all.”

The girl and magic staff were nowhere to be seen, instead a fine layer of blue, shimmering dust covered the ground. In the center, where Red Hood and Nightwing should have been, was what looked like a pile of yellow and black fabric until it started shifting and moving, revealing itself to be two human forms.
Tim stopped dead in his tracks, nearly slipping in the dust, causing Robin — who was apparently right behind him — to crash into his back.
Robin mumbled a few curse words directed at him, but stopped short when he saw what was in front of them.
It was two young boys, both with messy black hair, both covered in a fine layer of glittering blue dust, and both wearing the old Robin costume. It was Dick's design, the brighter one, closer in color to what the Flying Graysons had worn, and with a startling lack of pants. But it was the one that Jason had worn too.

Or, Dick and Jason get de-aged by some magic, assumptions are made, and those assumptions are very, very wrong.

He hated it here. At first, he’d thought that he’d gotten lucky when the humans had freed him from the net instead of killing him, but then they started poking and prodding at his agonising wound on his tail, started gabbing about keeping him for ‘observation’, and the next thing he knew, there’d been a sharp prick in his tail, and he’d woken up next to the tiny tank, a human sitting next to him waiting to watch him swim for a while to make sure he wouldn’t drown.
It was the same human every time, there were a few others that accompanied him, but the large, dark haired human was always the one talking to him, gently prodding his tail and asking him what hurt and where.

And now he was lying on the floor of a small, all-white room while a small, dark haired child sat next to him and stared with blatant curiosity.
He sat up with a groan. “Where am I?”
