His finger shakes against the trigger, a lifelike tremor polluting his movements. He’s killed deviants, machines that vehemently believed, beyond any source of doubt, that they were living beings. He’s killed things that begged him to live. Chloe sits here before him, unassuming and completely unaware. It would be a clean shot, straight through the processors behind her facial plate. She would not feel it.
He cannot do it. He grits his teeth and holds the gun to Kamski, a white flag. An admittance of defeat. There is something wrong inside of him.

Summary
Markus and Leo, teenage boys not known for getting along at the best of times, have been feeling the strain of their father's newest art exhibit, so Carl pulls them out of the gloom of Detroit and into a resort hotel in Florida during summer break.
Hank, adoptive father to Connor -- a sophomore in high school with more than one foster family horror story under his belt -- just wants to take his new son on a real vacation, so he enters and somehow wins a giveaway at his work for an all-expenses-paid two-week stay for a family of up to 4 at a private resort on the west coast of Florida.

In their travels they have encountered one of the great philosophers of their age, the Revered Amanda, and had with her a communication regarding her numerous discoveries, especially those regarding Connor: a part-sea-monster kept under her care. The Revered hires them to escort herself and her ward, Connor, to a city Amanda has business in.

Summary
For as long as he had been in the possession of Carl Manfred, RK200 #684 842 971 Markus has experienced strange errors -- biocomponents that he does not have are registered as missing, there are gaps in his processors where strings of code should be, and sometimes, if he's left idle for long enough, he pauses blankly, CPU trying to ping something that does not exist.
He's a prototype, so abnormalities in performance are to be expected, and they don't interfere with his primary directive -- to take care of Carl Manfred -- so he devotes minimal amounts of processing power to analyzing them.
Carl observes him during these events with a glint in his eye that Markus learns to store under expressions/neutral-positive/excitement/knowing.

Some months after the peaceful revolution, Connor, living with the now-retired Hank Anderson, comes across a heavily-damaged YK500 on the streets. After fixing her with some help from Markus' coding, Connor decides to surrender her to New Jericho. She has other plans.

Summary
Markus is a vampire who volunteers at a clinic for abused, at-risk, and in-need vampires in Detroit named Jericho. He, alongside regular volunteers North, Simon, and Josh -- also vampires -- make up the Jericho Coven (any close friend/support group comprising mostly of vampires). After closing out several cases against abusive sires (those who turn others without their consent and/or without proper care afterwards), Markus believes their work is done for the time being and that he can have a brief respite from finding feral vampires on the streets.
Unfortunately (or, for those it affects, very fortunately), he's a magnet for troubled vampires, including one rather mysterious feral wandering the streets for seemingly-impossible lengths of time.

Connor is forced to relive some unpleasant memories and finds himself pushing his emotions to the side to help an eerily familiar android come to terms with the revolution, deviancy, and what it means to be alive.

Yes ok, Connor will choose deviancy, has chosen deviancy and it’s time to tear that wall down. There is nothing in this earth that will keep Connor from who he's worked to become. The Connor that Hank can look in the eye and call 'son.' The Connor that could not, would not, and will never again raise a gun to an innocent androids head.
As he meets gentle eyes, cantaloupe green and sky blue, Connor realizes that though getting to this point has been written into his code, he will not succeed for those who put it there. If there ever was a choice that would encompass everything Connor wants to be,It would be to spare Markus.
