The Blythe-Meredith-Ford family is rife with love stories that can be boiled down to a few half-sketched sentences. Anne Shirley cracked a slate over Gilbert Blythe's head. Owen Ford came bearing red roses to the house of dreams. Rilla Ford promised not to be kissed by anyone but Ken Ford.
But not all love stories are so easily told. It was the popular opinion of Rilla's children that one of life's singular ironies was that Persis Ford indexed other people's work for a living while taking care no one index her.
