Jules theatrically hunched over.
“Hooope! Hope, angel, that’s just not what gym battles are about.”“Isn’t it?” Hope fired back, one part snarky as she lay the verbal trap to catch Jules in their own empty words. The other part, a quieter admittance that hid out of view as it waited, was genuinely confused.
“If the point in us was to beat trainers, we’d just full-send our team every battle. We’re examiners, testing how well they know their pokemon.” Jules leant their back against the wooden railing, giving them a better view of Hope’s contemplative expression. The mirth colouring their tone contrasted something more genuine. “We’re not bouncers gatekeeping some exclusive club. You did good, Hope.”
Resting her chin on arms folded over the porch railing, Hope had nothing to say in the face of that and settled for turning her head away from her friend.

Nishiki survives the explosion, but it doesn't feel as lucky as it's supposed to be. The explosion was his chance at redemption, something to make up for the path he took, but he failed at a task as simple as killing himself. Now, it seems like he has all the time in the world to face the music for his actions, and maybe... tread his own path? Is that really possible? As someone sentenced to the shadow of greatness, falling short of reaching it every time, can he really do it?

I'll probably rewrite some of my favorites from there but I mostly want to start new ones, some slightly spicer, more romantic stuff involving our dear Seeker and Storyteller. Rating may change depending on how spicy I tend to take it.
