Summary
Ponder is generally smart but even he makes mistakes. The mistake in question made the whole rest of the faculty jealous. Rincewind soon finds himself unwillingly thrust into another series of events to, in a very roundabout way, pay for that mistake.
What should have been a quick trip to Klatch and back to UU instead turns into a series of events that resemble an adventure a little too closely for Rincewind’s tastes.

Meanwhile, Eskarina Smith, the Disc's first Female Wizard, First Wizard/Witch, and First Class pain for Rincewind, wants to take her first real tour of the city since getting into Unseen University. The two find themselves at what the Dean often refers to as an Imp Ass.
This would be no problem, save the fact that the greatest tidal wave Ankh Morpork has ever known is on a direct collision course with the city.
