El looked angry.
That was new. Especially after a call from Mike.
Before Will could ask what was wrong, she turned sharply toward him.
“He is not coming,” El said, her voice sharp with something between anger and hurt.
“W–what?” Will stammered. “You mean… Mike’s not coming here for spring break?”
El looked away, swallowing. “He has bad grades,” she said quietly. “His mom is very angry.”
“Oh.”

Summary
I am bitter about the majority of Season Five, so here is a rewrite more rooted in the small town horror of Seasons One and Two. Will include Byler, actual stakes, fights that are not Marvel-ified, consequences, deep talks, Mike has a braincell and uses it, questions answered etc.
[EXCERPT:]
Ca-clunk. The radio clicked on by itself, and Mike dragged his hands down his face. Here came the regularly scheduled military broadcast!
“Attention citizens of Hawkins.” A resonating male voice garbled out of the speaker. “It is currently 5:43 on Sunday, November 1st. Curfew remains sharp at 6:00. All citizens are required to return to their residencies immediately to satisfy this curfew. If you are unable to return to your house by this time, please approach your nearest friendly soldier or officer, and they will be happy to give you a ride free of charge. Help keep Hawkins safe and do your part.”
Mike’s eyes strained from how hard he was rolling them. He jabbed Will with his elbow. “Help keep Hawkins safe, my ass. What do you think they’re really doing?”
Through a mouthful of mashed potatoes, Will mumbled: “Probably letting the demos run wild at night as a natural pest control.”

Summary
The storm over Mike’s head brews. The gray clouds darken to black as if something’s burning—but there’s no smoke. The ground trembles beneath him, quaking with anger. Overhead, a tornado forms, churning in the sky.
More than one—a dozen, maybe more—tornadoes form all at once. Mike lets out a cry, not sure if it’s rain or tears streaming down his cheeks. The downpour grows heavier, blurring everything into gray, while the earth shakes harder beneath him. More tornados spin into existence. Strangely, it feels like a weight is being lifted from his shoulders, as if this storm—no, this disaster—is somehow soothing.
Or after season 2, with the heightened/extreme stress and the pores from the tunnels. Mike awakens his powers, being the first mutant on Earth in X–Men terminology. This can be a fix–it or some kind for the next season maybe…

“I’ll miss you very much, Will” Jane hugs me, very emotional.
“I will too, sis.” I kiss her cheek, and she smiles fondly.
“Take care kiddo, we’ll be right here” Hop makes his way to me, as Jane goes to talk to Jonathan and mom.
“I will,” I hug him as tightly as I can, still not reaching my hands
"Everyone ready? Then let's go.” Jonathan calls us, and we enter the car, driving to the so-familiar Wheeler home.

This is a Byler-centric rewrite of Stranger Things that's mostly from Mike's POV and will focus on giving him his deserved character development. El's also gonna have some POV moments because I want more of her independence arc and self-exploration! There won't be any major deviations from the Upside Down plotlines, so I'll mostly be adding scenes/flashbacks that focus on characters' personal growth and relationships. Also, there will be angst along the way for SURE, but there WILL be a happy ending. Trust.
