Summary
Faulkner takes a deep breath that does nothing to calm his nerves. Just some psychotropic tea—that’s practically nothing. He can do this.
The disciples at the Paraclete’s Gulch need a leader now more than ever. More than that, they need their god to listen and actually answer. They need a prophet. And Faulkner… He has held his own so far, has proven his worth even. Has been able to pretend well enough that he truly is that man that everyone seems to see in him. And for their sake, he will go on pretending to be guiltless and fiery and faithful. Will play his part as that perfect, flawless, shining thing.
But if there is still a chance he can be made real and true, Faulkner has to try. And in his heart of hearts, he still needs, wants, craves to prove he is special—that it was really in him all along. Yes, the risk is worth it.
