Aldous is one of the many Indoline survivors of his uncle's feud with Torna and the so-called "Saviour of Alrest". It's been eight years now, and he looks back on his childhood and those involved in the Indoline Tragedy with increasing bitterness. When he finds a strange Core Crystal near Tantal's shores, his life becomes undoubtedly worse, but with it comes a clean slate, and a chance to seize the agency he has yearned for for so long alongside a new friend.
Rex's aunt is worried about how one of the former orphans is doing; despite not being a very social kid, he's never failed to write a letter back. Rex goes to find him, eager to get the chance to improve his relationship with one of the few orphans he never managed to befriend. He finds far more than he bargained for.

Mythra created a vile bond with him and feels guilty.
Meanwhile Yaxley struggles with his dark past and the woman he calls his “mother.”
And who sent the Tixs to burn down the world and why?
Who is the Queen of Loxen? Why has no one ever seen her face?
