Fuck. Mike can't lie to Will. Friends don't lie. Even if that stupid saying in their party has been disproven a million times, for Mike and Will it has always rang true. Circumstances don't just change in a day, Mike isn't suddenly going to start lying to him.
'Uh I mean... we'll see each other around and, you know the party isn't gonna let us just stop all hanging out. We'll be in contact for the rest of our lives Will.'
It's the truth. Mike knows his idea of never seeing Will again and closing that chapter wasn't going to work, the moment Will moved away to California Mike knew the ugly truth. But all Mike has is hope. All he can do is hope. That's his role as the storyteller. It's not right though, Mike's never been hopeful. He's never even allowed himself to imagine the future he knows he wants, he doesn't deserve to.

Mike generationally fumbles Will and has to figure out how to get him back, whilst simultaneously dealing with his own complicated feelings that he is not quite ready to face.
