Day 1 Excerpt:
They adapt, new dynamics forming.
Dick moves back to Buldhaven, but trades daily doodles with Damian instead of listening to his complaints about his imposter siblings. Damian joins Cass when she takes Ace to the park, instead of trying to draw him away from her with treats and force. Bruce enrolls Damian in Gotham Academy and Damian joins Tim in the photography club, attentively listening in his workshops.
The only one who doesn’t adapt is Bruce. He can’t bear it. He can’t count how many times he wished Damian was less aggressive, less entitled, less… everything. Now Damian is mild, friendly with his siblings, patient with the public, quiet about his inheritances. Its everything Bruce hoped Damian would learn with time and therapy – not torture and conditioning.
Bruce doesn’t look at the doctors’ cure updates. He knows it's wrong – Damian, everyone should hate him for it – but he likes Damian better this way.
Broken.

Looking down, Bruce found a little boy staring up at him with big blue eyes. Rain weighed down his dark hair and dripped onto the shoulders of his unbuttoned yellow rain jacket, the t-shirt underneath quickly becoming soaked. On his feet were the smallest pair of green galoshes Bruce had ever seen.
“Batman,” the boy said with wonder, clutching at the edge of his cape. “You’re really Batman.”
“…I am.”
The little boy held up his hands in the universal gesture for up. Glancing around, Bruce expected to find an adult not far behind, but he couldn’t see any parent-shaped figures nearby as actors ducked under umbrellas, camera crew reset their equipment, and PAs scrambled around the makeshift set.
“Up,” the boy said, stretching up onto his tiptoes.
Bruce picked him up.
“I don’t see them,” the boy pouted. “I thought since you’re so tall I would see them from up here.”
“Your parents?”
“I was ‘posed to stay put, but I didn’t, and there’s a lot, a lot of tall people here.”
“Mm.”
“I know you are very busy fighting the bad guys,” the boy said seriously. “But you help people too, right?”
“Yes.” Bruce’s chest tightened. “We’ll find them."

It’s hard to believe that every little thing we do happens for a particular reason, maybe it’s not everything, maybe it’s just something’s. Maybe it’s just particular moments in our lives that lead to something that we could never have guessed.
What kind of events lead four young boys with no relation towards each other to become brothers in a place where you’d never expect to find family.
What lead a single wealthy restaurant owner to take them in as his own.
Everything might not happen for a reason, but somethings definitely did for them to become a family.

For as long as Bruce can (or chooses) to remember, Wayne Manor has been empty. After Alfred gets fed up with his macho “I’m Batman I don’t need anyone but the night.” attitude he sends Bruce to Haly’s circus to unwind; but thats not what happens, Bruce watches two performers fall to their deaths as their 7 year old son watches. Bruce decides right there and then he won’t let Richard become one of the children lost to Gothams foster care system. Along the way a reporter from the Daily Planet catches wind of this ordeal, as he interviews Richard (with the help of Bruce) he starts to linger more and more around Wayne Manor. As introverted as Bruce is, he likes the reporters company, Richard’s little feet pattering around the manor, and the dinner outings the trio go on every Friday. They make this house (or mansion) a home.

Dick found himself trapped, facing a monster shrouded in a black cloak.
The boy peeked under the cover and saw its long, black ears, reminiscent of a bat's. It was large and muscular, even covered up. It should have been over two meters tall. Richard closed his eyes and cowered against the monstrous figure as he listened to Slade's shouts, calling him away from the bat, but the words of his late father were clear in his mind; he couldn't let the man touch him.
Which would be the lesser evil? To let the dangerous man, Slade, whom his father spoke of in sheer desperation catch him or to let the monster, a batman devour him or take him away?
