Summary
This fic lives in the spaces Rachel Reid leaves quiet. It follows Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov from the end of Heated Rivalry through The Long Game, then imagines a future shaped by love, community, and consequence.
Chapters 1–16 focus on the four-year gap between Heated Rivalry and The Long Game. These chapters trace the long, uneven process of staying in love while being forced apart by careers, secrecy, and fear. They linger on stolen moments, missed calls, private rituals, and the emotional labor of choosing each other over and over again after committing exclusively to each other.
Chapter 17 is a deliberate rewrite of a key scene from The Long Game that I couldn’t live with as written.
Chapters 18–45 imagine what comes after The Long Game in the upcoming Unrivaled era through my thoughts. This section centers on Shane and Ilya learning how to live publicly, build a community. Luca Haas becomes a vital part of that future, not as a threat, but as proof of how love expands rather than divides. Together with their growing chosen family, they confront an antagonistic podcast, TopShelf.

“You wanna come on a run with us, Chiron?” he asks softly as he clips the leash to the dog’s collar. “Bet you can go really fast when you want to, huh?”
“Not as fast as Anya. Too big, too strong. Anya is much lighter. Leaner. Means she can go faster, too.”
“Chiron’s legs are longer,” Shane argues. But that just makes Ilya snort. “What? You of all people should know that gives him an advantage.” He elbows his husband, eyeing his legs and letting them linger for a tension-filled second. “How many times have you beat me because of your damn long legs?”
Ilya fakes an offended gasp, one hand dramatically flying to his chest like a woman in an old black and white movie before she swoons onto a fainting couch. “You think I only beat you because of my long legs?”
“I think it sure fucking helps!” Shane grunts, an affectionate laugh barely hidden behind the sound.
“You want to test this theory?” Ilya asks as Shane stands to his full height, wrapping the leash around his waist. “A race. Me and Anya versus you and Chiron.”
OR Ilya challenges Shane to a race with the dogs, but Shane gets stuck with Chiron, who's definitely not a racing dog

Summary
Zane Boodram makes a goal and cameras show his wife Cassie clapping and screaming for him. Later, towards the beginning of the second period, Ilya makes his own goal and Shane can’t help but think of the camera panning over to show him cheering for Ilya in the stands.
He could picture it so clearly. Sitting with the other partners, cheering for their boys, Shane wearing a Centaurs jersey with ROZANOV 81 plastered across his back. He thinks about how happy he’s felt these past few months, and it mingles with need for his vision to be reality, and just like that the thought is finally pulled front and center in his mind with no way to ignore it.
Almost as soon as he thinks it, his decision is made and he starts forming his plan.
