Summary
It's a simple proposition: Agatha Harkness, heir to a small branch of the old but faded Salemite coven, will be handfasted for two years and two months to Rio Vidal, heir to the noble First Coven. Hopefully in that time the two will produce at least one child to be heir to both covens, and when the time has passed, they can choose to remain together or part and co-parent. If and when their child outlives them, Agatha's coven—like many before—will be absorbed into the First and the child will be the leader of the most powerful and ancient coven in the world.
Of course, thanks to her mother, Agatha has little say in the matter, but she comforts herself with knowing the handfast will be short in duration. Once she meets her intended, however, she begins to have thoughts of a more permanent nature.

Summary
Harry Potter doesn't catch the Knight Bus after running away from blowing up Aunt Marge before the start of third year. Snape finds him hiding out and has some questions about Harry's behavior. Upon discovering Harry is being badly abused by the Dursleys, he sets out to rescue the boy. He never planned on adopting him but what's a potions master to do when an abused frightened boy falls in his lap and his parent's wills say Snape should take him? He was getting tired himself and let his cheek rest on the mattress. “Know that I promise to do everything in my power to take care of you. All right?” He brought his gaze up and hoped he was making eye contact through the wolf's bangs. “You don't have to struggle anymore. You're safe; they're safe. It's okay.”
Maybe it was the fever, because there were no alarm bells. No red flags. Nothing to indicate this human was a threat - something to fear and defend against. The wolf's instincts had been assuaged as he settled into the notion that he was protected and provided for here. In fact, the way he was being consoled made him feel like a pup being cared for by his mother.
