Grian had known that he'd probably have to face some consequences. Now, he refused to take responsibility for...y'know, getting shot, but like, it wasn't as if the situation had been entirely out of control. He'd gotten comfortable. Felt that maybe the over-city was accepting him, truly accepting him.
And if they accepted him, why not everyone else? Which is why, even if he'd missed death by a feather, he wasn't going to quit. Doc and Etho weren't huge fans of that, but he was a grown man who could make his own decisions. If they had some limitations, some expectations, sure, fine, whatever.
What they come up with, though? He had absolutely not seen that coming.
{In which Grian recovers and complains about it the ENTIRE time, Doc and Etho put on the parenting hats even if their kid is a grown ass man, Jimmy and Tango have youngest child syndrome, Pearl finds this all weirdly hilarious, and Scott and Zed are just...also here.}

Steve had no reason to stop. Should have just dropped off the casserole and left. But after leaving the dish with a note on the Mayfields’ doorstep (Max’s mom didn’t always answer), his hands turned the wheel anyway, pulling up in front of Eddie’s trailer.

And he didn't know when they'd stop. Not when Etho had given him the mug of hot tea. Not when Pearl put her arms around him. And what even what he doing, here? He wasn't apart of this family. This was all his fault. Wasn't it? If it weren't for him, Grian wouldn't have gotten the idea to do this in the first place...
Wouldn't have gotten the idea that he could fly under a blue sky.
...but then...could he really bear to apologize for that?

Redmond approaches Ciel the night before the cricket tournament to ask for a few words in private. Curiosity piqued, Ciel goes with him.

Ciel stirred a cube of sugar into his tea, sipping it thoughtfully. He avoided Redmond’s eyes as he spoke, choosing his words carefully. “I’m surprised you’d need to ask, given that your uncle was aboard.”
Redmond set his teacup down, leaning forward as he spoke. “Yes, that’s true, but you’ve met him before, then, right? You know how he is… he’s…”
“A pain?” suggested Ciel.
Perhaps it was too candid.
Redmond snorted, covering his mouth as he laughed. “That’s one way to put it! I can thank him for my looks, of course, but if he’s a pain, I hope I never manage to be more than an ache.”
Despite himself, Ciel found the conversation drawing him in towards something dangerously genuine. If Redmond truly didn’t align with his uncle on everything, Ciel could dig into the fracture if he played his cards right.
