According to King Emerys in KM Shea's fairytale retelling, the cursed elven generals were free of their curse, but not by his doing. "By the time I finally caught up with them, a young woman, a cobbler’s apprentice from Trieux, had already freed them.” He goes on to add that the breaking of the curse "involved love of a sort—and the girl did fall in love with one of my generals.”
