The last time Tommy went into a temple, he had still been dirt poor, and he had been young. He remembers walking around in those sacred halls, the way they seemed to go on forever and ever. The temple is grand, and it’s easy to get lost when you’re small, on your own, and don’t have anyone to guide you.
Tommy faintly remembers the statues there, depictions of the very gods that are worshiped so often. There had been offerings placed delicately at the base of the statues, golden trinkets, delicious food, and Tommy remembers how he had stolen an apple or two, and fiddled around with some sort of crown.
People had found him in the temple then, and he had gotten an earful of lectures and yelling, people who were so appalled that Tommy had disrespected the gods by daring to touch what wasn’t his. Tommy had run away through the halls, panicked and near tears, and to his luck, there was one stranger who hadn’t immediately yelled at him upon finding a dirty orphan in the sacred temple.
Someone with the brightest blue eyes Tommy had ever seen, reaching a kind hand out with a quiet voice and quick footsteps. He had led Tommy to the front doors, and then disappeared just as Tommy went to ask who he was.
