Once Alex is out of sight, Vash groans and collapses down to his knees in the water. The eyes that had been squinting up at him pop out of the surf, as well as the head they’re attached to. Meryl’s grinning at him, sharp teeth and a forked tongue, eyes sparkling with residual amusement. When Vash puts his hands out for her, she slides into his arms easily, and gets salt water all over Vash’s shirt.
“Hmm. What if this was dry clean?” Vash asks, watching his red shirt go burgundy with dampness.
“Then it would be your fault for wearing it to the beach,” Meryl responds, wagging a webbed finger. She’s got pointy claws, but they retract as she gestures with her hand, moving it to cup his cheek. “You’re just playing up the annoyance because you like him, right? I wasn’t wrong not to splash?”
“Please never splash my mom’s girlfriend,” Vash tells her, though he laughs.

Vash waits for a moment alone with his partners... for obvious reasons.
