Summary
Roy scratched him gently, moving from one side to the other, nails scraping across his scalp, and Jamie moaned, head dropping forward. His hair was damp with sweat, of course, but that didn’t bother Roy. Especially when Jamie made a little whiney, whimper sound and it probably should have been annoying, but it wasn’t. At all. Jamie turned his head, and Roy’s fingers scraped over his ear, his nails brushing against Jamie’s cheek. He nuzzled into Roy’s hand, and something warm slithered down his spine.

Summary
“Thanks. I’m sorry, I meant to call, but my meeting this morning went long, and I have all of these things Rebecca wanted me to go over with you. The charity match next month, the fan day event we’re doing in a few weeks, and we’ve got some new endorsements and promotion opportunities that I wanted you to sign off on before we–oh, hi puppy.”
Roy looked over his shoulder to see Jamie had not followed his order to stay on the couch. Roy wasn’t cross with him, though. He was probably too curious and excited when he heard Keeley’s voice. He looked back at Roy with a question in his eyes and Roy shrugged.
“Yeah, you can say hi to her.”Jamie smiled and bounded across the room. Roy felt himself tensing, unsure of how Keeley would respond to all of this, but she just squealed with delight.

Summary
To an unknowing eye, it looked like Jamie was just running back and forth with no rhyme or reason, but he’d invented a game to play in all the mud and muck, passing the ball between each foot, aiming at the cross bar, catching it as it bounced back to him. He wasn’t on all fours out there, but he didn’t need to be. He was making all kinds of noises, but none of them were words–most could be described as yipping, some as howls, the occasional growl as his feet slipped out from under him or when he missed the ball’s ricochet. He was making an awful mess of himself, but Roy didn’t have the heart to stop him until he heard the crack of thunder.

Summary
Jamie looked up from the remains of his kebab and saw Roy’s eyebrows now drawn together with concern instead of anger. How could he explain he didn’t want Roy to think the new guy–and his old friend–was better than him? He couldn’t even quite explain it to himself. Jamie had never been a jealous person, which wasn’t always a good thing when girlfriends took his level of jealousy as his level of care. But why should he be jealous? He was Jamie fucking Tartt. If somebody didn’t want him, they could jog on, not his problem.
If Roy didn’t want him anymore, it would probably kill him. But he couldn’t exactly say that, could he?
