Summary
There’s a folklore in the last island they landed on that tells the story of a princess who fell into eternal slumber after biting into a fruit cursed by a witch, and was only cured by the kiss of true love from her prince charming. Someone on that island had the bright idea to create a fruit that can emulate said story, and of course that fruit just had to find its way to their ship.
And of course, someone, namely one Portgas D. Ace, was dumb enough to eat it.
Since nobody in this goddamn ship seems to have their head screwed in correctly, Marco might just found himself to be the most reluctant ‘prince charming’ in the entire world.

[Based on 'The Crane Wife' Folklore]
One day, he saved a bird from freezing to death in a trap. Then, a stranger saved him from suffering the same fate, and a request to stay for one night turned into having someone to fill the void left in the small cottage and in his heart ever since his brothers left.
These two incident doesn’t seem to be related to one another, but they both changed Ace’s life in ways he could never have imagined.

Summary
Merfolks were incredibly secretive, so much so that their existence as a whole was forgotten and often thought of as a legend. The fabled kingdom of Mermen, Raftel, was the dream of every single young boys and girls, and the journey to discover them was the end goal of every pirate out roaming the 4 seas, in hopes to not only uncover the legend of the merfolk but to also gain their treasure, the famed One Piece.
And Marco just found one of those legendary creatures.
All because he’s so goddamn hungry.
