“Cerberus isn’t afraid!” Hades protested. “He’s simply… distracted. But yes, the rest of that is true.”
“That’s hilarious.”
Or, after Demeter devises an interesting scheme, Hades and Persephone require Will Solace's help in the underworld.

After a moment of tense silence, Will decides he needs to say something. “I love you,” he whispers against Nico’s lips. “I- I never got to tell you that.”
He expects Nico to smile, to tell him that he loves him, too. But instead, only a sob cracks against his face, and Will’s chest swells with guilt.
Nico sits up again, his face crumbling as grief consumes him. He shakes his head and holds his face in his hands, hiding himself away from Will’s gaze. “Now you tell me,” he whispers. “The first time you tell me you love me and it’s in the middle of a war in which we’re on opposite sides.”

Will held it out and Nico took it carefully, reading the writing on the case. ‘For my darling,’ it read, with little hearts doodled around it. “It’s a mixtape,” Will told him.

Nico and Will return from their trip to Tartarus.

Nico attempts to reach out and touch Will’s shoulder, if only to give him some semblance of support, but Will flinches at his touch and murmurs nervously, “Don’t hurt me. I don’t want to be here.”
A crack erupts over Nico’s heart. He knows that Will’s dreaming of Tartarus, but it doesn’t make his words hurt any less.
He doesn’t want Will to ever think he’d hurt him.
But Tartarus has made sure they know that the world is only a cruel, devastating place. Pain is all anyone truly understands after Tartarus.
