Summary
It was admittedly rather difficult to explain why Alphonse needed to wear a suit of armor at all times, and even harder to explain why there was no body inside said armor. When asked, “Why do you wear that armor?” or reacting to, “Gah! There’s no one in there!”, the Elric brothers learned to have several ready excuses available.
After all, soul binding wasn’t that common. There were plenty of other ways to explain an empty suit of armor, right?

Or, Fullmetal Alchemist where everything is the same but the Elrics come up with increasingly more creative excuses as to why Al wears armor, and why his armor is empty.

His brother startles momentarily, and then barely manages to restrain himself from yelling at Mustang, who is clearly enjoying this. Alphonse is pretty sure the only reason Ed isn’t yelling is because this is the colonel's house. And because the colonel is right there. Instead, his brother takes out his frustrations by stomping up to Alphonse and ripping the dishes out of his hands and marching off to the kitchen.
Mustang starts quietly cackling.
Or
a kind of role swap, where only roy and riza swap roles, and they only kind of do. Alphonse and Edward aren't sure how to handle this situation.
