Chapter 9: It Finally Happened

Chapter Text

Sanemi knocked on Giyuu's door with the desperation of a man on the edge of diarrhea.

The door was only opened after a while, with only Giyuu's bare top half appearing through the crack. His hair was dripping wet and Sanemi belatedly realised that he might have interrupted his shower.

Giyuu combed his hair out of his damp face like he was starring in a shampoo ad.

“Sanemi? What happened?” He asked with knitted brows.

Sanemi swallowed and felt the temperature in this place rise by a few degrees.

“Uh.. can I come in?”

“Oh, okay,” Giyuu let him in and stared at him blankly. “What's wrong?”

On the way here, Sanemi had thought of the 1001 ways he could declare his undying love for the other man. But right now, distracted by a particular rivulet of water sliding down Giyuu's surprisingly toned abs into the edge of his towel, Sanemi finds that his mind has drawn to a complete blank.

His mouth opened with no words coming out and he was left standing there like a Venus fly trap.

Giyuu tentatively reached for his hand in an attempt to read his thoughts, but the physical contact made something in Sanemi snap.

He tugged the other by his hand forward and smashed their lips together.

Giyuu jolted backwards in shock but Sanemi held him close with a hand on his waist. He was no longer afraid that Giyuu was shunning him - He had said on Sanemi's deathbed that he'd liked him!

“Giyuu Tomioka, I'm in love with you,” Sanemi professed lowly into the scant distance between them with hooded eyes, “Will you go out with me?”.

Giyuu could feel his heart beating in his mouth. They were both red like cooked lobsters.

Everything happened so fast. One moment, he was in the bath and the next, half naked in the arms of someone who forgot his confession but, from the thoughts of it, looked like he had remembered?

“O-Okay,” Giyuu answered faintly and was rewarded by another press of his lips. He inhaled sharply with a gasp and the other man took the chance to delve in with a lick. He trembled as the feeling of their tongues touching set all his nerves on fire.

To be honest, Giyuu has no idea what he's doing. Luckily for him, Sanemi had a lot more ideas of what they should be doing — starting from tugging his towel loose.

Giyuu had a moment of panic that was quickly overshadowed by a thrum of anticipation. He'll be lying if he said that he had never thought about this, especially after seeing Sanemi's very vivid dream. And it seemed that a certain part of him approves of Sanemi's ideas as well.

But what about his brain, though, what does it think? Was it wise to get his cherry popped by a sweet man who’s totally his type and fully devoted to him? Would he still sleep with Sanemi if it weren't the solution to his telepathic curse? Would he regret spending the night with his crush, and therefore permanently altering their relationship dynamic for the foreseeable future?

He thought back to the advice he had given Hakuji back then.

No one else can make the move for you.

Giyuu decisively dropped his towel, and dragged Sanemi to his bedroom by the hand.

The next day...

The moment Sanemi and Giyuu had arrived together at the office, Shinobu gasped aloud.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it finally happened!” She announced with a spread of her palms.

The Hashiras all stood up from their seats and gave a round of applause. There were cheers and wolf-whistles.

Sanemi shot a death glare at Hakuji, who shook his head vigorously and mouthed, “Wasn't me!”

“Good job!” Rengoku celebrated cluelessly before he decided to clarify, “So, what happened?”

“Nothing,” Sanemi immediately answered.

Shinobu snorted and gestured at the both of them. “Nothing? You two waltz in here late together with Sanemi's collar buttoned all the way to the top for the first time in his life and claimed that nothing had happened?”

Both of their faces instantly flushed red.

“Okay fine,” Sanemi spat and decisively grabbed Giyuu's hand.

“We're dating. You guys have..” He set his watch’s timer, “1 minute to ask any questions, and afterwards will shut up about it forever.”

Everyone's hands shot up eagerly.

“Mitsuri,” Sanemi called.

“Aaa, I'm so happy for you two!” She squealed, “So, who confessed first?”

“Giyuu. Next,” Sanemi squinted at his choices. “Tengen.”

Tengen fist pumped the air before he snapped his finger at him, “Okay, but was it a flamboyant confession?”

Sanemi looked at Giyuu blushing cutely and quirked a smile. “Yeah, not bad. Next.. Tanjirou.”

The intern looked delighted to be called upon.

“How did both of you realised that you like each other?”

Sanemi shrugged a shoulder.

“Felt like making him soup.”

“Uh… really didn’t want him to die?” Giyuu answered unsurely.

A chorus of “Awwww”s was heard from the crowd.

“Who cares about all these!” Shinobu interrupted impatiently with her hands thrown up. “I want to know who bottomed!”

“Fuck you, time’s up,” Sanemi announced with a glance at his watch, to the disappointment of many.

“Any further questions will be answered by my fist. Now, get the hell back to work, ya nosy assholes!” Sanemi snarled and the crowd dispersed sullenly.

Giyuu was about to leave as well, but was held back by the hand by Sanemi. He snuck him a quick kiss on the cheek before letting him go.

The accountant walked back to his desk dazedly with a hand on his pink cheek.

Yeah, definitely no regrets.

Ding Dong!

Tsutako rang the doorbell to her brother's apartment. The last thing she would've expected was to be answered by a half-naked Sanemi in an apron and holding a spatula.

His face mirrored her look of surprise.

Then, the door was shut again. She could hear a “Fuck!” from the inside and sounds of people scrambling about.

Finally, the door was opened by an awkward-looking Giyuu.

“H-Hi, nee-san,” He greeted her neutrally. “What are you doing here?”

“Can't your sister drop by for a visit?” Tsutako snorted and raised a brow. “Aren't you going to let me in?”

“Oh. Okay..” Giyuu let her in.

Sanemi was pouring a perfectly cooked omelette onto a plate of rice at the dining table. He has a black top under his apron this time. Although, Tsutako noted with a suspicious squint at the design on the back of the shirt, that it seemed to be Giyuu’s.

“Hello, Tomioka-san,” Sanemi turned to greet her calmly as if he didn't shut the door in her face a minute ago in a panic.

“Hello, Shinazugawa-san. I'm surprised to see you here this early in the morning,” She commented before she took in the spread and asked, “Wow, did you cook all these?”

“Yes, he's a great cook,” Giyuu answered with a tinge of pride. “You should try some of his food.”

“I hope you two don't mind me intruding on your breakfast, then.” Tsutako unceremoniously took a seat. She made her way here at the crack of dawn and was so hungry she could eat a horse.

Sanemi retreated to the kitchen to prepare another serving of omurice for her.

Tsutako took the chance to pull Giyuu down into the seat next to her by the hand.

[Your fly is down] She thought.

Giyuu blinked blankly at her.

Alas! She closed her eyes in anguish and allowed herself a moment of silence for her baby brother's lost innocence.

She then opened her eyes to narrow it at an approaching Sanemi.

The oblivious chef cut the perfectly fluffy egg on her plate of rice, making it unfurl over in liquidy goodness. She almost drooled at that sight.

“Itadakimasu!”

They dug in.

At first bite, all of Tsutako's previous grievances were forgotten and this Shinazugawa guy was her new god.

“Mmm! This is so good!” Was all she could say before she promptly devoured the rest of her entire meal.

Giyuu and Sanemi exchanged amused gazes.

Tsutako patted her full tummy and let out a satisfied sigh after she was done.

“Okay,” She conceded and gestured at them, “You two have my blessings.”

Giyuu's face flushed pink while Sanemi immediately stood up and bowed lowly with a, “Thank you! I will take good care of him!”

Tsutako’s heart warmed at that sincere display.

“I'm glad to hear that. Now, please, take a seat,” She hurriedly said with a smile.

Sanemi sat back down stiffly with an equally red face, which she supposed was rather cute.

Tsutako had done her research prior to this surprise drop-in. She'd read up on Sanemi's past cases and it seemed like under his harsh appearance hides a soft heart. He'd helped so many troubled kids regardless of their financial status, even to the extent of sponsoring their therapy and visiting them outside of work. There were many positive statements and articles by the people he had helped. He truly was a good man.

Giyuu's always been a shy and albeit a little lost child, but he was also the kindest boy to ever exist. He was the easiest child to raise, never complaining and always offered the best things to his sister despite her repeated refusal.

Tsutako watched as the two men shared shy smiles with each other.

Ah, her brother has grown up and finally met someone deserving and appreciative of his awkwardly sweet nature. Grandpa, you can rest in peace now, she thought in her heart.

Sanemi cleared his throat. “Erm.. we have a lot of leftovers, so I can pack some for you to bring back home, if you want,” He offered.

Tsutako's eyes shone gratefully.

She turned to her brother.

“So when are you bringing Sanemi here to visit my house?” She asked, eager to recruit him into the family and subsequently his delicious cooking.

“H-Huh? Nee-san!”

END ---

Notes:

I hope I did the confession scene justice! I was super conflicted about the ending - even thought to make Giyuu reveal his telepathy to Sanemi. But then that opens up another can of worms that felt too draggy so I just decided to smash them together hahaha!

I think this is the extent of suggestiveness I can go. Sorry, ya gurl is just here to write disastrous Sanegiyuu in increasingly embarrassing situations for the lols.

(But if you guys really want to know the answer to Shinobu's question, I would like to think that they took turns hehe 🤭)

Added in some nosy Hashiras and hungry Tsutako to sum things up nicely, and I hope that you guys have enjoyed the ride! Whew!
