Work Text:
“Thanks for waiting here you go” a drink was put in front of a worn out Izuku. He looked up to see the bird head of one of one of his class mate and friends Tokoyami in a waiter uniform along side the short figure of his other class mate Mineta.
“Tokoyami? Mineta?” Izukus other classmates asked who were at another table taking to Melissa Shield daughter of David Shield “what are you too doing here?”
Tokoyami rolled his shoulders in annoyance holding the metal plater with one of his hands and pointed at Mineta with his other “he roped me into this he said I could get in the exibit and he said he would give up some of his break for time so I can go see the haunted history of Japan sections”
Mineta looked proudly at his not so master plan working out “well it will all be worth it now I have a cool dark and mysterious wing man to help me since I couldn’t get Kaminari to sign up with me” Mineta said bringing up something or someone that they all have been wondering
Were was Denki Kaminari?
“Kaminari couldn’t make it? I thought he surely would get invited? Or would have made it here some other way” Izuku said wondering we’re his electric friend was
Jiro stifled a laugh “maybe he short circuited and forgot” she said taking a friendly jab at her not so all the time smart friend
Everyone chuckled a little at this Momo being the first to gain her composure back “well last I heard from him was after the sports festival at his internship”
“Yeah maybe his doing that fair enough he could use so training and extra studying” Tokoyami said glad his friend was maybe bettering himself and sharpening his skills like how he sharpened the sword in his dark abyss of a room
They all shared theory’s on were Denki was some were blow out of proportion and some were more realistic all while Mineta was trying to speak but got cut off by the next theory. After they stopped Mineta could finally talk without being interrupted
“Actually he told me that he had some family stuff to take care off so he skipped out kinda lame honestly” Mineta said finally able to say his piece
Jiro quirked an eyebrow “well if he had family stuff it’s fair why he didn’t show I would skip out too if my family needed me” she voiced with others agreeing with her family comes first after all
The topic shifted to other things but the punk rock girl couldn’t get her mind off Kaminari
“I wonder what his family is like” she thought wondering what kind of family Kaminari had.
She looked up at the seagulls soaring around. Jirou thought of how Denki would have probably made a joke about them by now or how cool this place was and need out on the tech here. She stirred her drink thinking about him and what he was up to.
-Kaminari Household-
The Kaminari household was normally quiet with just Denki and his parents living there. But now it was a ruckus Denkis parents were taking to a pair of old folks in the living room and told him to stay out of the living room and to not listen in. Normally his mother was kind and gentle but the way she told him was more like a command a drill sergeant gives it left no room for questioning.
Denki could be seen in the bathroom washing his face or more of around his eye. He could hear his mothers voice raising with rage in the other room with his fathers voice trying to calm her down and the pair of old folks talked calmly about what he didn’t know.
He cupped more water in his hands and splashed it on his face rubbing at these strange lighting like cracks on his face.
He pulled his hands away to look at them in the mirror they appeared when an accident at his internship. The marks went from his eyes out they looked like little lighting bolts or in his eyes annoying purple cracks that hurt like hell
“First it was the humiliating fight I up against that vine haired girl from class 1-B then the disaster at the internship with Powercell now it’s these stupid marks that hurt like hell!” He said frustration clear in his voice he thought these would wash off like blood but the cracks just stayed there like they were always apart of him.
He sighed to himself “I should have just gone with the Lurkers for my internship”
-Flashback-
Denki walked behind Powercell the thunder ball hero
His quirk Powerbank lets him make balls made of thunder and punch them at people sending villains flying he was an awesome. After that loss in the sports festival he put all his chips on this if he could learn some sick wicked moves from him he’d be set
“So Mr Powercell sir what’s on the agenda today training, patrol? Whatever it is sir I’m here to learn” he said excitedly
Powercell stopped at a door and opened it as the door rolled up it showed a medium sized room with power banks nearby in the walls
“This is what I want you to do” he gestured for Denki to walk in which he does then he continues “this room is basically the generator for the building keeping the lights on it’s powered by lighting quirks everyone does there part here helps save money” he said closing the door on Denki which made him give a questioning look to the pro hero
“Ummm sure not to be rude but what about training?” He said not sure on how to take this
“Uhhh well considering this part of your training battery pack keep the lights on and I’ll think about taking you on patrol you just gotta keep it going until the next guy comes to relieve you” Powercell said leaving Denki by himself
He scoffed there’s another insulting nickname battery pack at least it wasn’t chargedud, bolt for brains or phone charger for hire. He start to let of a continuous stream of electricity the generator seemed to drag it out of him as it kept taking the electricity.
-a couple hours later-
He lied there the generator didn’t stop taking he short circuited a long time ago going into his dumb mode thumb in the air as normal he hated it when was his replacement supposed to get here. He felt like this machine was taking more and more from him he felt sleepy now and heard people outside yelling his eyes dropped and he passed out.
He woke up in the hospital turns out that machine was made to keep pulled the electricity out until there was nothing. Powercell said it was never supposed to happen and that the sidekick that was supposed to take Denki’s place was late bullshit honestly but who was he to argue he was just the battery pack.
-end flashback-
Safe to say he was never going back to Powercell a complete waste of time that was and all the pro got was a slap on the wrist. And now he had these stupid marks on his face that stung like hell he couldn’t even use his quirk because it would cause him pain
He looked at himself in the mirror he looked defeated he was tired of being weak and treated like a joke tired of being the phone charger he couldn’t even go to I-Island because of this accident it was bullshit it was like he was chosen to be the butt of ever joke by the earth of something
“Denki dear can you please come to the living room” he heard his mother call out to him sounding like she went through a emotional breakdown
He sighed and put in his best I’m fine face and walked out
As he entered the living room he saw his parents on one said on the table while the two old folks were on the other side gasping at him
“He really does have it” the old man said in disbelief and awe while the old lady covered her mouth with her hands
“Have what?” He asked confused at the two old people looking at him like an ancient relic
His mother looked tired but relieved her husband his dad was rubbing her shoulders with care
“Please sit down son this will be a long conversation” his mother gestures to a empty chair
He goes to sit down between his parents and the elderly people still staring at him in awe
“Denki I’d like you to meet Kaito and Harumi Kashimo…….. your grandparents” she gestured to the two
Kaito looked like an elderly man with a lean and well built frame holding ferm from the ravages of time. His grey hair went down his back with a bun at the top of the crown of his head his face was covered with a short gray beard. He was wearing a black kimono with a white lighting blot going down his right side
Harumi was an elderly woman that showed elegants her sliver hair going into a bun with a strand of hair going down her face. She was also wearing a kimono the same as Kaito but the colors were inverted and she styled it with more elegance fitting for a lady
“My grandparents?” Denki asked confused now he never met his grandparents on his mother side she never talked about them
Kaito nodded with vigor “yes my boy and I’m sorry for never getting to meet you but those marks tell me do you really have it……” he asked nervously
Denki now was confused these marks in his face were important and does he have what? “I’m sorry I don’t know what your taking about” he said nervously looking away
“He doesn’t know what those mean marks mean Kaito ok he doesn’t know the weight of them” Harumi said calming her husband looking at him with care
Denkis mother sighed she never thought her boy would get these marks and that monsters blood in there would be in her veins
“Let me start from the beginning Denki our last name isn’t Kaminari” she let Denki take those words in “it’s Kashimo our last name is Kashimo we are apart of a clan that predates even quirks”
Denki mind was boggling with this information his last name wasn’t Kaminari and Kashimo clan? “Wait I’m apart of a clan? And what’s important about these marks mom your scaring me”
Harumi spoke up at this trying to comfort the boy “those are the marks of the thunder god of our ancestors question do you know about the haunted age of Japan?”
Denki perked up the haunted age of Japan that theory that Tokoyami mentioned to him “isn’t it a theory that before quirks there was something else?”
She nodded at this “well it’s not a theory it’s was very real only the old clans know about the full truth now. Long before quirks there was something called cursed energy it was a malevolent power source generated from human negative emotions—such as fear, anger, and sadness but it was very rare very few had this power and was able to tap into it. With this people used this as strength and developed curse techniques fundamentally forged in that person but sometimes passed down. After it was taken away from humanity by a mad man and humans then developed quirks. And those marks means you have the same power as the strongest member of our clan Hajime Kashimo the thunder god” she finish her long explanation leaving Denki to think about this truth for a long time
He sat there thinking for a while silent, we can be adults to assume his mind set
“Who was he?” He croaked out tentatively “was he strong…..”
Kaito nodded like his life was one the line “he was the strongest sorcerers of the Edo period and was brought back to be part of a killing game with the sole intention to be able to fight against the king of curses the strongest curse ever know to finally get the fight he yearned for but could never have because he was to strong”
He took a breath letting his words sink in even in the modern day of quirks the clans that survived all know of the king of curses and knew that name carried the weight of the strongest curse ever born and Kashimo the strongest of the Edo period burdened with the curse of being the strongest “the only reason his blood carries on is because the clan leader at the time asked him to impregnate her and in return she would send all of her clan warriors to fight him. After he killed them all she sat back in the shadows waiting for the Kashimo clan to start again and it is written that if a child with marks the same as him comes along his technique will be carried down to them curse technique or quirk if that child inherits his technique the Mythical Beast Amber that child will be crowned Kashimo clan head that child is you” Kaito finished the story
Denki let his words sink in about his ancestor his birthright and the power he supposedly has
“What power did he have……” he asked chewing on his thumb
“He had the power to transforms his body to manifest any phenomena that can be created by electricity, which he converts from cursed energy. It was one use though after he use it it would kill him. But I’m betting for you with the age of quirks on your side it’s not the same you have the power he didn’t you have time and the power to master it if you let us help you” Kaito pleaded. They needed him the technique of Hajime Kashimo was what they needed to make the Kashimo clan one of the strongest clans it all rested on Denki if he refused they would have to turn to quirk marriages to keep there power he didn’t want to do that but the elders of the clan demanded it.
“Listen Denki if you become head of the Kashimo clan I and many other will help you master this power please we need you grandson” he said bowing his head in the table which shocked his wife and his daughter. If the elders saw the current head of the family bowing his head they would riot but that didn’t matter if Denki became the next clan head he would bow on his hands and knees if he had too anything to save his clan from destruction and those woman of the clan form a future as trophies wife’s
Denki looked down his ancestor Hajime Kashimo was strong he wanted to be strong like him he’d do anything. Anything was better then this he hated being weak and used as the butt if every joke
Denki looked up at his parents and grandparents with wet eyes “grandpa please help me become strong like him I want to be a hero that is strong to stop villains in there tracks but I also want my name to be respected like Hajime Kashimo so please help me become strong like him” Denki pleaded with him
His grandfather smiled warmly so did his grandmother. Denki looked at his mother and father the people who held his hand in life like a life line like he was asking for her opinion for her permission to become strong.
His mother wiped a tear she knew Denki to well she knew he was suffocating through the use of his quirk she could only imagine what imagine the impact at the sports festival had on him and now that internship this was one of the first times she’s seen her sons eye light up with like this since the internship it held more purpose though carrying weight behind it. She looked at her husband who smiled and nodded and then looked back at him
“Denki become the strongest you can we will be with you all the way” she said smiling at her son growing up right before her eyes
He looked at his grandparents with one question burning with determination “how do I become strong” he asked determined to not just carry the weight of being a hero. Denki Kashimo was ready to carry the weight of being like his ancestor and thrive in it
