Chapter Text
Vanilla blinked his eyes open as the morning sun filtered warmly through the thin curtains ebbing gently in the subtle breeze. He took a long breath in smiling before stretching his arms. The cold wooden floor of his room woke him further as he made his way to the small balcony.
The curtain itself was a light blue with yellow stars dancing over the sheer fabric, the balcony was small, just large enought for two people made of a almost white brick. Pure vanillas hands brushed over the brick lightly as he took in the scenery of the woods behind his home.
The castle in which his home was, was situated on top of a tall mountain so it sat above his kingdom, his room however did not face his kingdom, for he preferred the view of nature. And especially the birds.
Like they knew the time three small white birds fluttered to the balcony edge, sitting patiently. Vanilla smiled softly at them, and reached for the small packet of seeds he seemed to always carry with him.
The birds chirped happily as they ate the seeds that lay im the palm of his hand. He let out a soft chuckle from the tickling sensation as he heard another flutter of movement.
A blue bird had joined the other birds on the railings of the balcony, its head looking upwards with a confused look keeping its distance.
Vanilla smiled. "Well aren't you marvellous, looks like we have a new friend?" He held out one hand for the blue bird to eat but it only hopped backwards and away from him. Vanilla hummed with content as he let the other birds finish their breakfast.
"Pure Vanilla cookie??" A voice echoed up the stairs. Hearing his name Vanilla left a pat on each of the small white birds head and he left a smile for the blue bird. "One moment!" He called to one of his advisors. "Ah kingdom duties never wait."
The birds flew away as he left the balcony all but one. Pure vanilla threw on his robe quickly before fixing his hair and putting on his hat, seemingly satisfied he turned to leave when he heard thump and the sound of wings flutting away. He turned to see who was there but there was no one.
The day passed as he finished his daily duties tending to his kingdom, the day had been on the hotter side so he was happy to return home. Taking off his hat as he entered his hair rather ruffled, he sat down at his desk only to find a book he hadn't seen before. It was a hard cover green book with gold embellishments, the title read, "the ultimate handbook to birds"
He hummed a suprised little sound as he opened it, and to his enjoyment featured all his favouite birds. He was dissapointed to find no note in the front of the book however. He decided to read this book instead of filling his scrolls about various different kingdom exports and information piled up enough to give him a headache
Daylight faded as orange dusky tones filled his room, page after page he read. But seemingly all he could think about was the strange new blue feathered bird who showed up that very morning. The book that sat in front of him had nothing about it, and that only made his curiosity grow. He looked out his window to see the stars flickering mischievously at him. He couldn't help but have a strange feeling that somthing was going to happen.
The next morning came quickly as the light brought to him a sting of pain ringing in his head. Perhaps he'd stayed up too late reading, shrugging it off he got up and started his usual routine to find the three white birds already at his window. Did he sleep in?
He made his way to the balcony and picked up a packet of seeds for them, they ate extra hungrily today and he smiled sleepfully at them. And once again the new blue bird perched next to the others.
Vanilla stared at it with wonder, its feathers seemed to be iridescent rather than just blue. He knew that he might startled it but he couldn't help his hand reaching to pet its head gently.
It was so soft, he noticed the bird seemed a bit taken back but didn't move. Vanillas hands moved to scratch under its chin gently. At first it didn't seem to mind, but then it flinched and bit down on his finger.
Vanilla was at least to say suprised, no other bird had bitten him before. Perhaps he had scared it somhow. "Ah- sorry" he held his hand in the other looking at it. Ince he saw that no actual damage was done, he smiled sorrily at the bird before turning to leave and start his day.
As he finished getting ready and was about to leave he heard a chuckle and the scared sounds of birds flying away. "Did you enjoy the book?" Vanilla knew that voice. He whisked around to see Shadow milk cookie sitting on his balcony railings grinning wideley.
"It was you.." Pure Vanilla spoke a bit more breathy than he would have preferred, taken a bit back to the suprise of a beast in the archway of his room.
