Chapter Text
It was you.." Pure Vanilla spoke a bit more breathy than he would have preferred, taken a bit back to the suprise of a beast in the archway of his room.
Shadow milk cookie smiled mischievously as he walked slowly towards Pure vanilla cookie. "Mmmm no idea nilly!" Shadow Milk laughed as he looked around the room. Pure vanilla stayed silent observing his possible enemy.
"So this is where the oh so great holder of the light of truth spends his days hmm?" He pokes at a golden yellow flower sitting in a small blue pot before looking to Pure vanilla cookie awaiting a response.
Vanilla grips his staff. He felt that look, that grin on shadow milk cookie burn in the back of his skull. "Its not much, but i guess im an enjoyer of the little things."
Shadow milk cookie looked as if he was going to fall asleep because of how boring that sentence was. A petal fell lazily onto the floor but he kept his gaze on Vanilla.
"Hmm why so tense! Have some fun mm? A smile maybe!" Shadow Milk took another step closer, his foot stepping on the small petal .
Pure vanillas grip tightened as his knuckles grew white, his voice was blank with emotion. "If I smiled at you. That would be a lie."
Shadow milks eye twitched. "Not happy to see me sunshine-" he was cut off by a jab at his throat as Pure Vanillas staff pressed hostily under his jaw. Shadow milk let out a nervous laugh. "Oh silly vanilly don't be so hostile now, im not here on bad terms after all." His grin widened. "Like I'd trust anything from your mouth." He pressed his staff further against the other before collecting himself. He turned away, putting his staff down and taking a seat at his work table seemingly done with whatever fiasco Shadow milk had in mind. Shadow milks grin grew strained as he stood there, he noticed how the light in the room had been drained. Stars speckled through the windows against the siluette of trees. "Mm, I do appreciate the rooms allowingness for moonlight." They both stared put the window for a moment, Shadow milks grin lessening as Pure vanillas grew the slightest amount. Pure vanilla put his pen down and turned to face the other. "Why are you here?" And with that acknowledged Shadow Milk cookie took the chance to dissolve into blackness before dissapearing.
The next few mornings got easier as they went on for Pure Vanilla cookie. He hadn't seen a sight of his 'other half' for a week. He had noted of the fact that the blue bird didn't appear.
And had come to the realisation that the elusive mysterious blue bird was in fact Shadow milk cookie. It made his jam boil uncomfortably.
Why did it feel wrong ro hate him? He then came to the conclusion that he doesn't enjoy hating anything and that every creature should be met with kindness. But him of all cookies?
"Pure Vanilla cookie..?" He was snapped out of his train of thought as White Lily cookie joined him. They were situated in a small park in the centre of his kingdom, plenty of plant life and a small lake. "You seem lost in your thoughts more often this past week. Is anything troubling you.?"
Then the strangest thing happened to him. He never thought he would ever feel this. But he had at that moment wanted to lie to her. Tell her that he was fine, and nothing was bothering her. He felt a twinge of pain radiating from his soul jam. He gripped it tight.
White Lily cookies worry only grew as she rested a hand on his shoulder. "Vanilla?" He looked up to match her gaze with perhaps more sadness than he intended to. "I-" His hands were shaking now. He stepped away from her touch his thoughts racing. "I have to go-" and he did.
He walked hastily away from her attempting to walk faster than the thoughts conjuring in his head. Why didn't he just tell her? Why did he feel the need to cover this up? It truly wasn't anything truly worrisome, was it?
His hand combed through his hair, he heard foot steps coming after him and a muffled voice. He gripped his staff and teleported away.
He took another agonising breath. Right. His room hes in his room. He basically collapsed as he sat in his chair, doing breathing exercises to calm himself down. He is king of the Vanilla kingdom and holder of the light of truth. He didnt lie. He didnt lie. He almost, lied.
"I didn't-" he stared blankly at his papers, his hand again running through his ruffled up hair. "You didn't what?" Pure Vanilla froze as he once again recognised that voice, and turned agonisingly slowly towards the other.
"Vanilly you look quite tossed up! I've been waiting for you to get back you know, quite boring in here.." Shadow Milk cookie was slumped over the small couch opposite to where Pure Vanilla was in the room. The blue beast shot a angry look at the bookshelf like it had insulted him.
Quickly his words catching up to where his mind was he kept speaking looking up to the roof then back to the other, making gestures with his hands with his feet swinging. "But you burst in here all frantically, quite a show i must say, all mutter mutter, we must work on your line delivery. But I did hear one thing so go on finish it"
Shadow milk smiled expectantly at the other only to be met with an intake of breath as Pure Vanilla collected himself. As he was not prepared for the blue cookie in his room that he did not want around. Infact he didn't want any cookie around. He wanted to collapse onto his bed and forget all about this.
"Mm that bad?" The blue beast raised an eyebrow at Pure Vanilla. "What did the puppies break out of the petting zoo or somthing?" He grinned to himself imaging how easy it would to bring chaos here with somthing as simple as puppies as he muttered 'you guys would have something as foolish as that here' under his breath.
"No- not puppies." Pure Vanilla stood up and walked over to his bedside cabinet. Shadow milk frowned seemingly not happy with that answer. "Wow, worse than puppies. Nothing else much scary round here though, exept for me." Pure Vanilla let out a ironic chuckle though barley audible, before taking a pill to help with his increasingly worsening headache.
This made Shadow Milk cookie sitting up excitedly gripping the sofa, "did you just laugh? At somthing I said? Maybe your not so hopeless Vanilly!" Pure Vanilla sat down on the edge of his own bed and stared at Shadow milk cookie, just as suprised as he was. "Yeah well you are giving me the worst headache in the world because you don't shut up. So statistically somthing you said was bound to make me laugh eventually. No matter how ironic it seems."
It was Shadow Milk cookies turn to laugh. And which he did, in fact he buckld Dover laughing falling off the sofa. "STATISTICALLY?" He kept laughing though it sounded more like struggling to breathe to Pure Vanilla. "YOU DONT USE STATISTICS FOR JOKES, WHO TOLD YOU THAT" Pure Vanilla despite his want to want nothing to do with Shadow milk. Laughed as well, and not just a small laugh, and his real laugh, especially at seeing the other fall off the sofa.
Shadow Milk cookies managed to crawl up off the floor pathetically after composing himself and Vanilla tried to stop the smile that came across his face, but he just couldn't lie. "You look stupid."
Shadow milk cookie Gasped dramatically. "EXCUSE ME" Which only made the others smile grow wider, and Shadow milk felt a feeling he hadn't felt before. He was supposed to be here to pretend to be kind to get the other to trust him so he could stab him in the back. He suddenly had the feeling that sticking to the plan wasn't going to be easy.
"Well I wasn't the one who fell off a sofa, so called all mighty beast" Pure Vanilla sent a jab back at Shadow milk and he could only muster up a reply with a scoff.
Pure vanillas smile grew smaller but softer as he looked down at the floor. He realised that the only reason his day got better, was because of Shadow milk cookie. He looked up to see the other walking towards the balcony.
"Shadow Milk-"
He stopped in his tracks but didn't let himself turn to face the other.
"Thank you"
And Shadow Milk dissapeared as he lept into the night sky and dissapeared.
