Summary
In a certain sense, there was no true role for a doll because dolls were inanimate objects. It was less of a performance, which demanded animation and consciousness, and more the embodiment of an ornament, or better yet still, a void. All she had to do was take whatever Daniel gave her silently and without complaint, with no action or reciprocation necessary. There was something soothing in this. It was an absolute absolvement of responsibility and the kind of passivity and dependency Armand had long privately yearned for taken to the furthest, most debauched extent.
