Chapter Text
“Since when did you get your ears pierced?” Sakura asks as he takes another bite of his omelet rice. When Sakura got back to their apartment earlier today, he almost immediately noticed that Nirei was wearing yellow beaded, yellow tassel earrings, which is far from his usual style. The style of the earrings is also something… more mature? Not exactly Nirei’s type.
“Ah! These? I got some matching earrings with my boyfriend yesterday so I went and got my ears pierced today!” Nirei explains, looking proud of the earrings.
Sakura frowns. The two have been roommates for a year now, and Sakura has never been told that Nirei has a boyfriend.
On one hand, he’s glad Nirei looks so happy, but he also feels extremely offended that Nirei never told him about this guy. The two of them have been such close friends for years now, shouldn’t he know something like this? Does Nirei not trust him enough to tell him?
“Hahhh??? Boyfriend? Since when?” Sakura scowls, taking another bite of his dinner.
Nirei grins, taking a sip of his water, “A few days ago! I met him at the bookstore when I was looking for textbooks for my class, he helped me look for the books and asked for my number! He’s really handsome.”
Only a few days ago. That somewhat makes Sakura feel better, since it seems like Nirei wasn’t intentionally hiding the relationship from him. He still can’t help but feel upset though. If Nirei has only known this man for a few days, what if he turns out to be terrible and breaks his heart? Nirei looks so happy and in love right now, but if that guy hurts his best friend in any way, Sakura might just have to kill someone. Murder isn’t exactly on the list of things he wants to accomplish this year.
“Are you sure about him? What kind of person is he? Tell me if he does anything to you, or makes you cry, I’ll deal with him.”
“Ahahaha, Haruka-san, you’re like an overprotective parent right now! Don’t worry, he’s the sweetest, most gentle person ever, you’ve nothing to worry about!”
Sakura calms down a little, if Nirei thinks this guy is sweet and gentle, maybe he really doesn’t have anything to worry about. They’re both college students, Nirei should be able to handle this.
A week later, he finds tea. He finds a whole packet of tea leaves on the kitchen counter.
Which is weird, since he doesn’t drink tea, and Nirei has never drank a lot of tea in the past. Chinese tea as well, since when did Nirei drink chinese tea? Tea doesn’t even taste that good, in his opinion.
As Sakura is examining the tea packets, Nirei walks into the kitchen.
“Akihiko?” Sakura asks while picking up the tea.
“Ya?”
“Why’d you buy tea?”
Nirei sees the packet of tea in Sakura’s hands. “Oh! I didn’t buy that, Hayato-san gave me some! He went to China a few months ago and bought so much tea he couldn’t drink them all by himself, so he gave some to me! It’s very good quality and expensive too, if you want to try it too, you should!”
First of all, Hayato? That must be Nirei’s boyfriend. Sakura knows the names of all of Nirei’s friends, but he doesn’t recognize this one, so this must be the boyfriend. Second of all, China? Is his boyfriend Chinese? From his name, it doesn’t seem like it.
Sakura scrunches his face, “The tea leaves look like veggies, hell no.”
“H-Haruka-san, you’re so damn picky.”
“It’s not my fault they look so unappetizing, but anyways, I bought popcorn earlier, wanna watch a movie with me? I’ll make the popcorn.” Sakura asks as he looks through the grocery bags for the popcorn.
“Only if you don’t choose a horror movie this time, last time, you tricked me into watching a horror movie and I nearly fainted!!”
Sakura rolls his eyes, Nirei can not handle horror movies of any sort, and refused to sleep the last time they watched a horror movie together. Meanwhile, Sakura loves horror movies but he is also scared at the same time, he just tries to pretend that he’s not ( and fails miserably, almost started crying last time.)
“Fine, you choose a movie this time, Akihiko.”
A few days later, Sakura opens the front door and steps out, feet stepping on something unusual. When he lifts his feet to see what he just stepped on, his face pales. A bouquet of flowers. Tulips to be exact. Why would there be flowers on the doorstep, who could it even be from?? He picks up the bouquet to examine it, and sees that there's a card attached, with Nirei’s name written on it.
Fuck. He quickly comes to the conclusion that this is probably from Nirei’s boyfriend, and he just stepped on it, the flowers all squished. Just then, he feels someone come up from behind him.
“What’s that?” Nirei asks.
Sakura considers lying to him, but if Nirei’s boyfriend tells him he got him flowers and Nirei never got them, it’ll be troublesome.
“Flowers, for you. Accidentally stepped on them because who the hell put flowers on the doorstep?? Why not hand them to you directly?? “
Thankfully, Nirei didn’t look upset and laughed while taking the squished flowers from Sakura. “Ah, Hayato-san probably wanted it to be a surprise. You should really look at where you’re going, Haruka-san.”
What did Sakura know about flowers and surprises? He’s never had a partner, so he doesn’t know what to say to that. He mumbles, “Anyways,… I'm sorry about your flowers.”
“Don’t worry about it, you weren’t doing it on purpose.”
Sakura’s glad that Nirei is so forgiving and nice, but he still feels guilty for stepping on the bouquet, maybe he’ll buy him something to make up for it. Another time, since he still has to go to his part-time job at the cafe he works at.
The next morning, he heads out at around the same time and just as he was about to step out, he finds another bouquet of flowers on the doorsteps. Roses this time. Thankfully, he didn’t accidentally step on them this time, and walks around.
And the morning after that, and even after that, for the next few weeks, he finds flowers every single day. Not a day missed. There are so many flowers in their living room and bedrooms that he started getting pissed at the amount of flowers. Every corner he turns, there are flowers. Of course, it’s sweet of Nirei’s boyfriend to get him all this but it was still fucking annoying.
“AKIHIKO, there's too many damn flowers in this place, TELL HIM TO STOP!!!”
“Ehhh? But they look good.”
The flowers did eventually stop, thankfully. That is, until he one day steps out and finds a cat plushie in its place. Whatever, plushies are cuter than flowers.
Sakura doesn’t know what he expected, but just like the flowers, he finds a new plush every single day, for the next few weeks. Now Nirei’s room is filled with all sorts of plushies. It takes a lot of money to buy all of this stuff, does this mean Nirei’s boyfriend is rich? That’s good for Nirei or whatever, so not like Sakura can complain about that.
It’s been a month and a half now and Sakura still has never seen this ‘Hayato’ guy. This guy never comes over, and Sakura doesn’t even know this guy’s full name. He wonders if he's getting avoided on purpose.
It’s currently a Friday evening, and every Friday evening, Sakura and Nirei spend time together and play video games. Sakura isn’t the best at video games, he rages a lot but he still has fun playing. He picks up the video game controller, getting ready when Nirei comes into the living room, wearing his jacket and carrying a tote bag, like he’s about to head out.
“...??”
“I’m soo sorry, Haruka-san, I didn’t mean to cancel last minute!! I just found out it's my boyfriend’s birthday tomorrow so I'm sleeping over at his house today, since I want to celebrate with him. I’ll make it up to you in a few days! I promise, I promise!!!” Nirei explains while putting on his shoes.
Sakura knows that Nirei would never cancel their plans for no reason, and he’s not lying, so he has no reason to be mad. He’s just more confused on why it’s only ever Nirei going over to his house and not the other way around.
“Why does this guy not come over here? Why always the other way around?”
“Hayato-san lives with his master in this big house, but his master is barely home since he’s training in China. We live in this cramped apartment so it makes sense for me to go over there? Plus, Haruka-san, you hate anything too lovey-dovey, you won’t be able to handle him.”
Well. that did make sense. He does get very embarrassed whenever he sees PDA in front of him. If Nirei says that they’re very lovey-dovey, it must be true, so maybe it is a good thing he’s not coming over.
In a blink of an eye, summer break is over and classes are starting again. This semester is going to be an annoying one, he has to take so many hard classes he doesn’t want to take. He internally sighs, as he walks through the campus. Aside from not wanting to go to class, there’s another problem right now.
He’s lost. He’s been to this campus tons of times, how does he still get lost? Not sure, Sakura never had the best memory.
He opens his phone to look at his schedule again, but he just can’t find the room he’s supposed to be in. He’s already ten minutes late, it’s an extremely hot day, and he’s about to give up.
He doesn’t like to ask for help, but there's nothing he can do. He finds a nearby teacher and finally gets directions for the room he’s supposed to be in. He’s stupid, he literally walked past that room like 3 times, and didn’t notice.
As he walks into the room, everyone’s eyes are on him. The class is so full, and there are barely any seats still empty. He looks around the room until he sees one empty seat, by one of the windows to the left. He takes his stuff and heads over to the seat. Once he’s sat, he looks around to see if he knows anyone in this class, no familiar faces unfortunately.
He then looks to the guy sitting right next to him, on the right side. The guy is wearing an eyepatch, and has brown, curtain-like hair. He also has these red beaded, tasseled earrings, similar to the one Nirei is wearing, except his bead is red instead of yellow.
Eyepatch? Did something happen to his eye? And the earrings must be the same brand as Nirei’s, which is why it looks so similar. Sakura was staring for so long, he didn't even realize it when the other guy started staring back.
After a few seconds, he hears the other guy whisper, “ Sorry, I know I’m good looking, but I’m taken.”
Sakura’s face grows so red when he realizes what the other is saying, he screams, “THAT’S NOT WHY I'M STARING, I DON’T SEE YOU IN THAT TYPE OF WAY.”
Then silence. The whole class is staring at Sakura, again. Sakura’s face only grows redder, not only did he come in late, but he’s now screaming while the professor is giving a lecture. It was simply a bad start to the semester. Sakura quickly apologizes and he then shoots the dirtiest look at the guy sitting next to him. He then turned the other way to look out the window, refusing to look the other guy in the face. Even though he can’t see him, he hears some quiet giggles from the seat next to him. Annoying bastard.
Class is soon over and Sakura is about to head out without talking to anyone. He couldn’t care less about making connections, but before he can leave, he hears his seatmate ask him, “What’s your name?”
Sakura, who is still annoyed, really did not want to talk to this guy, but if they are going to be seatmates, he might as well at least know his name.
“Sakura, Sakura Haruka. What about you?”
“Nice to meet you! Sakura-kun. I’m Leonardo DiCaprio
Sakura’s eyes widens, a foreigner? There aren’t a lot of foreigners in this part of town, it’s pretty rare actually.
“D-did you come from overseas? That’s so cool!”
“No, I’m Japanese.” This guy replies while grinning.
So he just got tricked…
“THE HELL?”
Since this guy in front of him doesn’t look like he’ll be giving him his actual name, Sakura takes a peek at the notebook that this guy still has on his table, it says ‘Suo’ on the front page. So Suo’s his name.
Suo just laughs at how angry Sakura got, and oh, does Sakura hate that. He literally got the seat next to the most annoying person on the planet, it seems. He doesn’t acknowledge the guy a moment longer as he stomps away.
“Fuckin’ bastard, literally the worst. I wished I came in sooner so I could’ve sat with literally anyone else.” Sakura complains while lying on the couch. Nirei sits next to him, scrolling through his phone.
“What did he do?” Nirei asks.
“He just assumed that because I was staring at him, that I’m into him. Like hell NO.”
Sakura groans.
Nirei giggles, “Haruka-san, you’re very easy to rage-bait, I’m sorry.”
Sakura rolls over on the couch, burying his face into the cushion, “Not you too…”
“Why don’t you try to make friends with him, making friends is always good, and you don’t have many of those!”
“The hell??? Having to sit next to that asshole is already frustrating, I don’t need him as a friend as well.”
“Aw, Pretty sure he’s not that bad, you just get riled up easily, I would love to meet this guy.”
Of course, Nirei loves meeting new people and making friends, so he’ll probably get along well with Suo. However, there is no way he’s introducing that bastard to Nirei, he’ll probably be a bad influence to his best friend. He doesn’t need that, so there’s no freaking way.
“No.” Sakura says, firm.
As if he doesn’t need anymore reasons to hate this guy.
He was already in a bad mood when he came on campus. He had bought watermelon yesterday and ate some this morning, and for some unknown reason, he now has a stomach ache. He can hardly walk straight from how much it freakin hurts.
He walks into class, this time he’s not late. Suo’s already at his seat when Sakura walks over, he sits down and turns away to look out the window, ignoring him.
Suo should take the hint that Sakura doesn’t want to talk, right? No, he still talks.
“Sakura-kun? Are you okay?”
Sakura ignores him.
“You look mad, no way you’re still mad at me for last class, that was 2 days ago.”
Sakura scowls, of course he’s no longer mad at that. “No! I ate some watermelon earlier and now I have a stomach ache. Ain't got nothing to do with you, leave me alone.”
Sakura thought Suo would actually leave him alone, oh boy was he wrong. He was stupid for even thinking that.
“Did you eat the seeds as well, Sakura-kun?”
“Huh? Yes, why?”
Suo’s face goes from smiling to a look of concern real fast. “Sakura-kun…”
With how grave his expression is, Sakura starts having a bad feeling in his chest. Is eating seeds bad?
“Did you know, if you eat the seeds, it starts growing a mini-watermelon in your stomach, that's why you’re having this stomach ache. I feel bad for you.”
Sakura suddenly had the urge to throw up, and it must’ve been shown on his face, because the guy that sits behind the both of them spoke up. “There Suo goes again, Sakura-san, you literally can’t take anything he says seriously.”
Before Sakura can ever fully process what that guy said, the others that sat near them start laughing, even Suo laughs out loud. Sakura’s ears turn red, yet again.
It hasn’t even been a week since he knew Suo, yet this is the third time he’s had to urge to fight him. Just as Sakura is about to get up to punch him in the face, Suo hands him a bottle of water.
“Want water? It'll help the stomach ache go away faster. Also if you have ginger tea or something, that’ll help too.”
Sakura did not expect Suo to actually try and help him, so he was caught off guard.
“H-h-huhhh??”
“If you don’t have that, I have some at my place, I’ll give you some tomorrow? Ginger tea is good for you even if you don't have a stomach ache."
Sakura was gobsmacked, he’s even offering to give some to him?. He doesn't even like tea. First, Nirei and his boyfriend, now Suo as well?
“I… don't like tea.”
Now it’s Suo’s turn to be surprised, “You don’t?? But there are so many kinds of tea, I’m sure you’ll find at least one that you like?”
“I’m not trying all that.” Sakura firmly replies.
“Hmmm, what do you like then, Sakura-kun?”
“Why do you care?”
“Just wanting to get to know my new friend better, that’s all.”
“W-WE’RE NOT FRIENDS!!!”
Weirdo. How is one so shameless they declare themselves someone else's friend, he even said no. He’s never met someone as weird as him.
Even though he is a bit curious about ginger tea, he sits at his desk in his bedroom, as he opens his laptop and searches up ‘ginger tea’. The pictures that come up do make it look good and plus, ginger tea has good benefits as well, he’ll have to admit, not that he’s going to tell Suo that or ask for any.
“What are you searching for, Haruka-san?” Nirei asks from behind Sakura’s shoulders.
Sakura slams his laptop shut and turns around in a panic. “THE HELL YOU DOIN’ IN MY ROOM?”
Nirei ignores his question and plops down onto Sakura’s bed.
Did Nirei see what he was searching for??
It seems so, because Nirei takes out his little notebook and starts writing something down.
“Are you interested in ginger tea, Haruka-san? We don’t have any but what if I ask my boyfriend? I saw some at his place the last time I went over.”
“ DON’T ”
But then a new thought pops into his mind. This way Suo wouldn’t have to know he's interested, and he won’t need to spend his own money either.
Nirei frowns, “Are you sure?”
“....Okay, fine… I guess.” Sakura mumbled.
The next day, Sakura comes home from his job and Nirei hands him the pack of ginger tea. There was now no reason for Sakura to not try it.
“Hayato-san seemed amused when I asked him for some but wouldn’t tell me why he's laughing. He was very enthusiastic about giving some to me though, he says he hopes you like it.”
Sakura takes the tea from Nirei, “Hey, no promises I’ll actually like it.”
He decides to drink the tea another time.
A few weeks pass peacefully. Sakura started to learn how to tell when Suo was messing with him or not.
He’s not sure why Suo keeps bothering him , but Suo has dragged him out to eat lunch together on several occasions.
The two have also started working on one of their school projects together. When the teacher told the class they had to choose a partner to do it with, Sakura wanted to smash his head on the desk. He hates being forced to work with others. Not only does he have to work with someone, he doesn't really know anyone else in the class except for Suo, so it could only be with him.
“Are you free saturday? Wanna do it then?” Sakura asks.
“Nope, not saturday, I got a date that day, is sunday good?”
Oh right, Sakura totally forgot that Suo is dating someone. That was actually one of the first things he learned about Suo too. He totally forgot since he doesn’t know why anyone would date this guy, he’s super annoying.
“Whatever, Sunday is cool. “
He was hoping to do it Saturday since he doesn't have work that day, and he would rather get it over with. Now that he has nothing planned for Saturday, he can just hang out with Nirei, Nirei also doesn’t have work on that day.
…..
“Sorry~ Haruka-san, I’d love to hang out but my boyfriend invited me to go to the amusement park with him!”
“YOU TOO??” Sakura groans.
Nirei looks genuinely apologetic, so Sakura can’t stay upset for long. Nirei adds, “ I’ll get you a souvenir or something!”
Nirei is truly an angel.
A few weeks later.
It is a slow day at work. Sakura works part-time at a cafe that’s usually pretty busy but today, not only is it a cold day outside, it is also raining hard. There are barely any customers and Sakura’s bored out of his mind.
He’s about to go sweep the floor to pass the time, when he hears the door open and two people step in. He looks to the door and his eyes widens.
He recognizes one of the two that walks in, and who else could it be if not Suo. The other guy next to Suo has mid-length light pink hair, and tons of piercings on his face. Both of them are soaked wet from the rain.
The guy with the pink hair groans, “If only I bought my umbrella…”
“Yea, it didn’t look like it was going to rain earlier, we should’ve checked the weather..” Suo says, as he combs his fingers through his wet hair.
That's when Suo looks around and then makes eye contact with Sakura, a smile creeping onto his face.
“Sakura-kun, what a coincidence, I didn’t know you worked here.” Suo says as he walks up to the counter. The other guy follows behind him.
“Su-chan, someone you know ? ”
“Mhm, we’re friends.”
Sakura rolls his eyes. “We’re just classmates. “
“Oh, how rude, Sakura-kun.”
“Are you going to order or not?”
It had seemed like Suo and this other guy had only come in to get out of the rain and just chose the closest place they found open.
“Why not, I’ll just get a coffee.” Suo replies.
“Oooh! I want a muffin!”
As the two got their food and coffee, they went to sit at one of the tables at the side, and chat. Sakura can still hear their conversation from where he’s at.
“Su-chan, do you want a bite?”
“No thanks, I’m still on my diet.” Suo replies, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Always on that diet. Lemme get a sip of your coffee, pleaseee?”
“Kiryu, you have enough money to buy your own, I didn’t add any cream or sweeteners into mine.”
“But I don’t want to drink that much, just a sip!” Kiryu replies, pouting.
From the way these two are talking and this Kiryu guy calling Suo ‘Su-chan’, Sakura can’t help but wonder if this is the guy Suo is dating? They seem very close.
One thing that Sakura does is that he doesn’t charge his phone until it is really, really low. Usually he remembers to charge it before it dies but today is not the day.
He’s out getting lunch when he takes out his phone to check the time, but it didn’t open. It’s dead. Frustrating, not only that, he had not brought his charger with him so he won’t be able to charge until he gets home.
It shouldn’t be too bad, right? He doesn’t really have anything interesting on his phone, barely anyone, except for Nirei, texts and calls him, he should be fine until he gets home in a few hours.
Wrong.
He took his time getting home, and when he finally decides to charge his phone and checks his notifications, his face darkens. There were some text messages from Nirei from earlier.
Nirei Akihiko
[12:55] Uhhhhh soo I thought you might want to know but…
[12:55] Currently in the hospital (;_;)
[12:56] Broke an arm earlier in a fight, Hayato-san stepped in for me and beat those guys up, don’t worry
[2:34] Update! Hayato is still w me, I was treated pretty fast~ can leave soon! (≧∇≦)/
Fuck. This is so much more important than he imagined, he’s full on panicking, rushing to the door while putting his shoe back on.
Nirei Akihiko
Sakura: [2:51] FUCK IM SORRY
Sakura: [ 2:52] I’m coming this instant
Nirei: [2:53] Doesn’t hurt anymore, it’s fine! (>3<)
Sakura: [2:53] I’m still coming. Wait.
With that, Sakura runs out the door to the nearest bus stop that takes him to the hospital, and thankfully, he gets there the second before the bus leaves. He didn’t want to wait another hour for the next one.
As he gets off the bus stop in front of the hospital, he runs towards the entrance. As he reaches the handle to open the door, someone opens it from the other side, and he nearly rams into them. He looks up to see who he bumped into and almost rolls his eyes. It’s Suo again. Just why is he everywhere? Sakura is about to argue but he’s worried more about Nirei and has no time to stop and talk.
“Oh hi, Sakura-kun, you’re finally here! Good!”
Sakura ignores him as he rushes past him, having no idea what Suo meant by that. Suo was expecting him to come, why? Not sure.
He goes to the front desk, gets Nirei’s room number and he heads straight there.
He sees Nirei’s face brighten up when he walks in.
“Haruka!!”
“Sorry, my phone died so I didn’t see your message immediately.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that! It’s fine!”
Sakura sighs a breath of relief, Nirei’s wearing an arm cast but other than that, Nirei does look alright, so he sits down at a nearby chair.
“Spill, what happened, who were the ones that hurt you.”
Nirei hesitates, but still tells him at the end.
“I was out with Hayato-san earlier at the mall, and for a moment, I split up with him to go to use the bathroom. This group of guys were harassing a woman by the bathroom so I stepped in to defend her but there were too many people. Hayato eventually realised I was gone for too long and went looking for me and saved me and nearly killed those guys ahahah. If he didn’t step in for me, I would have worse injuries.”
Sakura can feel his blood boil, he hates pathetic guys like that, people that gang up on weak people to harass. He is still super glad that Nirei’s boyfriend was there, but speaking of his boyfriend, where is he?
Sakura looks around the room for him, didn’t Nirei say they were together at the hospital?
“Huh, wait, where is he?”
“Hayato-san left just a bit ago. His master is back in Japan and he has fighting lessons later, he was going to skip it because he didn’t want to leave me alone here but I told him that my roommate is coming to check on me so it’s fine for him to leave.”
“So… he’s good at fighting?”
This Hayato guy must be good at fighting, since he managed to fight off a group of people, and that he has a master that’s teaching him. If so, It feels safe for Nirei to be with him then, he’s sure about that.
“Yes! He has a really gorgeous and graceful fighting style as well! It looks like either Kung Fu or Aikido but he said it’s a mix of multiple styles since his master was self-taught! I was wondering if he would teach me if I ask, but I’m not suited for that type of fighting, heheheh.”
Once Nirei starts talking about things he’s passionate about, he never stops yapping, but Sakura’s glad about that, that he’s not injured too badly to where he’s upset and refuses to talk.
Nirei’s arms are mostly better several weeks later. He still has to be careful but he doesn’t need to wear his cast anymore and is slowly going back to his daily activities without much problems.
Sakura is out at the store right now, getting some groceries, so he decides to call Nirei to see if he needs anything. He takes out his phone to dial Nirei’s number and he picks up pretty fast, like he always does.
“Akihiko, I’m at the store right now, anything you wanna get or wanna eat?”
“Ohh, uhh lemme think… Oh right! I bought some groceries a few days ago so there's not much I need, but my boyfriend’s staying over at our place tonight, and I wanna get some snacks to share with him, I can finally introduce the two of you! If you see any tea cakes, get some of those? Thank you ~~”
Wait. Pause. Pause.
“Huh??? Why is he staying here? For how long??”
“Just tonight, I think I said something about this but his master’s back in Japan and they have some guests over at their house today, it’s more rowdy over there, but we wanted to hang out so he’s coming over here today! He’s on his way right now!”
“RIGHT NOW???”
Sakura is incredibly awkward around new people, and since this is Nirei’s boyfriend, he can’t be too rude and say whatever he wants. He didn’t even get too much time to prepare for the guy to come over.
Just then he hears faint knocking noises from the other end of the call.
“Oh, he should be here, I’ll talk to you later, alright? Byeeee!” And then Nirei hangs up.
Sakura sighs, there's nothing he can do about it, he just goes to look to see if there are any tea cakes to buy and continues with his shopping.
When he gets back to the apartment, the first thing that greets him when he opens the door are two pairs of shoes, one which is a pair of black kung fu shoes. It looks familiar but he can’t figure out where exactly he’s seen these shoes before.
Sakura slips off his own shoes and walks into the kitchen, putting away the groceries he got. Once he finishes sorting everything, he walks into the living room to look for Nirei and his boyfriend, and both are not there.
He looks over at the direction of Nirei’s room, his door partially opened, that makes sense for them to be in his room.
He walks over to his room and pushes the rest of the door open and sticks his head in, asking
“Akihiko, are y-”
His eyes shoot wide open at what he sees.
Oh his bed, Nirei lies there, back to the mattress, his clothes and hair disheveled, eyes tightly squeezed closed, tears at the corners of his eyes. Suo lies on top of him, hands cupping his face, his tongue almost down Nirei’s throat. Nirei’s hands clutched tightly at Suo’s shirt, like he’s scared to let go.
Sakura takes a few steps back and slams the door shut without another word, his face about to burst. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting to see when he pushed that door open, but it wasn’t that.
There were so many things wrong with what he just saw, he doesn’t even know where to start.
What. Why? How. What. Why? Excuse me??? WHY IS SUO HERE?
He then hears an awkward silence from inside the room, and followed by a thump, sounding like someone falling off a bed. Then, he hears yelling.
“H-HARUKA-SAN?? YOU’RE BACK ALREADY?? WHY DIDN’T YOU KNOCK??”
Y-Y-YOU’RE THE LAST FUCKIN’ PERSON TO LECTURE ME ON THAT, YOU DON’T USUALLY KNOCK EITHER”, Sakura yells from outside the door.
“STILL-” Nirei runs to the bedroom door and opens it, his face just as red as Sakura. As they are about to argue some more, both of them hear laughing from inside the room and look back into the room.
Suo is still lying there on the bed, hands covering his face, laughing so hard he also looks like he’s about to cry. This is the first time he’s ever seen Suo like this, “I-I- I’M SORRY I CAN’T- Sakura-kun, we were just making out, not doing anything else, no need for you to be this embarrassed.“
Sakura’s face gets even redder, something he didn’t think he could accomplish, honestly. He angrily points his finger in Suo’s direction, “AND WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE??”
Suo takes two seconds to think and replies, “Sakura-kun, you’re pretty smart, I think you can figure this out!”
Nirei turns to look at Sakura in shock, “Wait, Wait! Haruka-san, you already know Hayato-san?”
Hayato. Suo fucking Hayato. Sakura is an idiot, after knowing Suo for months, not once has he stopped to wonder what Suo’s first name is. If he did, he would’ve realised way sooner that the guy that Nirei has been dating, and talking about, for the past few months is Suo.
Sakura just stands there, looking pissed, so Suo, still looking as innocent as ever, replies for Sakura, “I met him a few months ago in class, we sat next to each other and became friends!”
Suddenly, so many different things made sense. The earrings, the tea, the shoes, Sakura bumping into Suo at the hospital, his strange comments, everything. There were sooo many hints from the start that Sakura had ignored.
It’s like a lightbulb lit up on Nirei’s head. “OH! Is Hayato-san the one you were complaining to me about??”
“YES, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW Y’ALL WERE DATING??”
Suo shrugs his shoulders, “ I would think it’s pretty obvious, but I wanted to see how long it would take the two of you to realise this ”
“WAIT- HAYATO-SAN, YOU KNEW ME AND HARUKA-SAN KNOW EACH OTHER??” Nirei replies in a panic.
The two are yelling so loud, they got Suo to cover his ears with his hands, “ Alright, alright, calm down you two, or people outside would think-”
“HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSE TO BE CALM??”
It took them 20 minutes to calm down and sit down in the living room to have an actual conversation. It was a lot of effort for Suo to get the two to stop yelling, but it also looks like Suo was having an annoying amount of fun.
“...”
“...”
“The world is a small place, isn’t it?” Suo finally says, after the other two didn’t know how to start.
Sakura ignores this comment and decides to ask.“You knew that me and Akihiko are roommates?”
Suo grins, and Sakura wants to wipe that stupid grin off his face. “ Not when we first met, but when Aki-kun one time came up to me and asked me for some ginger tea and told me that it’s his roommate, ‘Haruka-san’ that wanted some, that's when I figured it out!”
Both Nirei and Sakura groan.
“Hayato-san….why didn’t you tell me you knew him…”
“...Perhaps it’s amusing, I guess?”
Of course it's amusing to Suo, for him it's just embarrassing.
Suddenly, Sakura remembers the pink-haired guy from a few weeks ago, at the cafe, the one that’s really close with Suo. He really hopes this isn’t a case where he’s cheating.
“WAIT, what about that pink-haired guy?? From the cafe??”
“Oh, Kiryu? What about him?”
“...I’d just assumed… that… the two of you… were…..d-d-da….ting..”
Suo lets out a giggle, hearing that, “What about me and Kiryu made you think we were dating?? No, no, no, we were best friends in high school, I could never be into him.”
“...He calls you Su-chan.”
“He gives everyone nicknames, it’s just his thing.” Suo replies, as he pulls Nirei, who’s sitting next to him, closer, giving him a kiss on the cheek. “I could never be into anyone who’s not my sweet Aki-kun!”
Akihiko blushes and hides his face in his hands, and Suo smiles. For the umpteenth time that day, he has the urge to dig a hole and bury himself and die.
He squeezes out, “Y-you better not betray Akihiko like that ever, you got me?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t dare.” Suo answers.
"Good, Or else we fight, I don’t care how good you're at fighting, I’ll still fight you.”
Nirei, whose head is still being hidden in his hands, cuts in, “ Can we not talk about fighting, pleasee!!! Haruka-san, Hayato wouldn’t do that!!’
Suo chuckles, “It’s nice that Sakura-kun cares so much about you, Aki-kun, what a great friend! I hope Sakura-kun and I can be close friends too!”
Nirei looks very excited from what Suo just said, “Yesss!!! Hayato-san, you should come over more from now on and the three of us can hang out more!”
Sakura makes a face at that, “Hell NAH! I don’t need more friends.”
Nirei nudges Sakura with his elbow, and looks at him with puppy eyes, “Haruka-san..” Nirei pleads.
Suo also gives him a pleading look, “Pleaseee? You wouldn’t want to make Aki-kun sad, would you?”
Shit. There’s no way he can turn down a request from Nirei when he looks at him like that. “Fine… You can come over.” Sakura grumbles.
Suo and Nirei both beam at that. They’re going to be a really annoying couple, aren’t they, he already knows it.
