When Rien is out fulfilling Prescripts, Sora likes to use his computer. She’s not allowed to go on it, but she has always been able to guess the password fairly easily since it’s simply 12345. Each day, she thanks the Prescript that gave him that insecure password. She’s only recently been let into the House of Spiders, and she’s scared of everyone. Luckily, people on her favorite online game are (mostly) nice.
There’s no Prescripts to worry about in Animal Jam.
She sinks hours upon hours into it when Rien is out doing whatever, but by the time she overhears him talking to the other Nursefathers, she knows it's time to clear the history and cower back into bed. After a mere day of playing, she managed to buy a 3-month membership with his money. He hasn’t noticed yet and hopefully never will. Maybe a Prescript told him to never check his bank account? Whatever the case is, he hasn’t said a thing to her.
Sora is a plain white bunny with black eyes and ears named Princess Sunnyjoy. She enjoys playing dress-up, but she has found that she prefers her avatar when it’s plain. There’s one item she would like to have for it, though.
A spiked collar!
Everyone cool has one. She’d especially love it if it were yellow with short spikes. She realized she wanted one last week.
So, naturally, she went to the most packed server, Aldan, and advertised her trade list for a short yellow spiked collar. She believed that a few Rare Item Mondays should be enough.
…Sora learned the hard way that they weren’t.
A lot of rejected trades came first. Then someone started yelling at her. Well, yelling as best as they could over Animal Jam. It was a black and white Arctic Wolf named Major Majormajor wearing a long black spiked collar, a matching wristband, a black Worn Blanket, beta Elf Tail Armor, and a white Fox Hat.
“ARE YOU 5?????”
“No”
“6 RIMS ISNT ENOUGH FOR SPIKE”
“I just want yellow”
“ANY SPIKE”
Sora’s shaking as she types. She apologizes over and over. She’s about to close the game when someone else walks in from the direction of Sarepia Forest. They’re a silver wolf with a white underbelly, purple eyes, and grey swirls. The wolf is not a member but still noticeably valuable in their outfit; a red non-member Pirate Sword, a similarly red Glove, and to complete the outfit, a red Fox Hat.
“major majormajor stop it. my mom works for animal jam she is very high up in the company and she can ban you”
The attention of the Arctic Wolf shifted from Sora to this new character.
“YOUR A NONMEMBER. IF YOUR MOM WORKED FOR AJ YOU WOULD BE A MEMBER”
“i didnt want membership”
They argued for a while, Sora watching in amazement as Apprentice Redpaw chewed out the other player, saying that they were going to get them banned and that Sora was “clearly new”, which she was. Eventually, Major Majormajor spammed angry emoticons and left, with Sora knowing she had to thank Apprentice Redpaw.
“Thank you so much! Can you be my buddy? I dont have any :(“
Apprentice Redpaw sends a Buddy request almost immediately.
“YAY!! Thank you! I have a friend now :)”
“dont worry about it”
They further explained themselves. “i was just going to rp at camille2’s den but it made me upset to see that person scream at you over a video game”
“I dont know who camille2 is”
“he does videos on aj and i do rps at his den since its always packed”
Sora didn’t know what anything Apprentice Redpaw was saying meant, but she kept going along with it. They seemed very interesting.
“im still an apprentice in my current rp but ill be a warrior soon. hoping i can be leader next but bloodstar is powerplaying and being a mary sue as usual and i cant say anything”
“Thats cool!” She sends an amazed emoticon.
“thank you”
They moved to Sora’s den, which she had decorated as best as she could. Apprentice Redpaw said that he was a boy and that he had been playing since the beta phase. She asked him if it was true that his mom worked at Animal Jam. He said no and that he made that up to scare “the troll”.
Hey, at least he was being honest.
“oops sorry gtg. mom is calling me for training”
“Thats ok! What training?”
“uh it’s just some finger stuff”
“I didnt know you were also in the Fingers!! I got put in the Index lately”
“oh cool yea im in the thumb unfortunately”
Apprentice Redpaw sent another message before Sora could respond.
“gotta respect your masters and whatnot”
“Ok!! Baiiiii”
“seeya”
And so he left.
Now she’s talking with him in her den again, days later, and he says he has a gift for her. She’s redecorated it entirely. Even if none of the items are really rare, she’s happy with how it looks. Apprentice Redpaw tells Sora to check his trade list and she gasps.
…Oh!
“WOW!! :O Are you really giving this to me?!?!”
It’s the exact yellow short spiked collar she wanted. It’s the sole thing on Apprentice Redpaw’s trade list.
“yea”
“How did you get it??????”
Apprentice Redpaw sits down. He completely ignores her question.
“just trade me a bad item i cant wear it anyway”
She quickly buys a cheap necklace and sends a trade request.
And in seconds, the spiked collar is hers. Sora equips it immediately, the way it covers her bunny’s neck reminding her of her own chains. She wishes her bindings had cool spikes or something. Maybe that would make the other Apprentices like her.
However, she must settle for it in the virtual world.
“well i gtg. moms home”
As she is about to type a reply, she hears the sound of Rien’s voice outside, talking to the Middle Nursefather. So she says her farewell and clears the browser history, shutting off the PC and stretching as best as she can.
