"Till," Ivan sighs, pinching the skin of his own wrist. The pain is grounding, as it was back then. It is unfortunate that he has to do it rather lightly. Another one of Till's red dots had appeared by his pulse this morning. Till seems to favor this area, which puts Ivan in an awkward spot because it forces him to be unnaturally gentle with himself.
(Or: Years after the rupture of the meteor shower, Ivan begins waking up with strange dots on his skin)

If Ivan cannot believe in Till the way people once believed in gods, then his faith must be similar to a dog’s. Like a lowly creature with nowhere else to go, he believes in Till’s capacity to be falteringly human.
