   Summary

   It is the thirty-fourth year of King Viserys's reign. His son and heir Baelor 'Breakspear' is beloved by all the realm, as is his daughter, Baelor's wife Rhaenyra. As all the great lords of Westeros gather in King's Landing to celebrate the nameday of he heir's heir, Jacaerys Targaryen, a chance cruelty from Jacaerys's cousin, Aerion Brightflame, will lead to a disastrous Trial of Seven that will leave the realm grieving... and in turmoil. The king's second wife, Alicent Hightower, is an ambitious woman, and as the vultures circle Rhaenyra's line, she -- alongside her allies within House Targaryen, including none other than the Lady Cersei, wife of the king's brother Maekar -- will move to place her son Aegon upon the throne.
