Summary
In the bleak winter of 1932 Manchukuo, the puppet state under Japanese control, a young huāzhì named Cha-er — a camellia cultivated for sale in an elite pleasure house. His body is top-grade merchandise, his education is exquisite luxury, and his bound, broken feet are the catastrophe that ultimately costs him everything.
After a cruel death he awakens in Limbo — the grey bureaucratic realm between life and death, governed by the administration of pleasures and concealed curses. In this place the dead are required to serve, while the living pay dearly for forbidden delights.
Yet even in a world where flesh is merely a tool and emotions are just another resource to be exploited… a fragile, trembling heart still dares to believe in mutual, genuine love.
