Summary
After a grueling Pro-Bending season (in which Shane gets injured) and months of not seeing each other, Shane Hollander whisks Ilya Rozanov away to his cottage deep in the mountains of Zaofu. It’s supposed to be a break from the cameras, the fans, and the new chaotic Airbender rookies changing the league—but mostly, it’s an excuse to finally stop hiding.
For more than a decade, they’ve been rivals in the arena: Shane, the immovable Earthbending captain of the Zaofu Meteorites, and Ilya, the flashy, aggressive Firebender captain for the Republic City Fire Ferrets. But in the quiet of the cottage, the rivalry no longer really exists.
Shane uses his seismic sense not to track an opponent, but to memorize the rhythm of Ilya’s heartbeat. Ilya, a Firebender raised in the Northern Water Tribe, finally stops burning himself out to keep others warm.
