Work Text:
Ahsoka had this weird feeling that Anakin was hiding something from her. He'd been avoiding direct confrontation all morning, hiding in the hangar working on the Twilight with the ramp retracted and Rex was loitering around it. Ever since they'd come back from the medical station after Geonosis, he'd felt distant, cold, almost bitter.
"Skyguy, why won't you talk to me?" she'd asked on more than one occasion.
"Snips, I just don't have anything to say. I'm sorry, but that's the honest truth."
"Admiral, is it just me or is Master Skywalker being a bit distant to everyone?" she asked the man.
"I can never figure him out Commander. If he's thinking up a plan, I feel it's best we leave him up to it." he replied as the ship jumped into hyperspace before walking off to tend to something else a minute later.
Ahsoka decided to go to her room and think it over. She grabbed a notepad and started writing stuff down, whatever came to her mind and in whatever order.
Master Skywalker is having an affair with someone
He doesn't want me as his padawan after our medical supply run
He doesn't trust me to get the job done right
He's thinking about sending me back to the temple
He loves me
He saved my life, but in doing so, it pushed him to his breaking point and he doesn't feel it wise to keep being my master
He doesn't trust the Jedi Order
He told the Admiral to take our ship into hyperspace and disappear to some unknown corner of the galaxy
He's going to leave me behind because I'm an extremely hormonal teenage girl
Ahsoka felt tears welling up in her eyes before she could get a handle on her emotions after she wrote that last bit. What if that last part was what was happening? Where would he dump her and would he take everything she had from her? She couldn't hold her tears back any more. She curled up around the datapad and let all the lonliness and fear out.
Anakin sat there in the belly of the ship talking to Padme.
"I'm just saying. I know it's raising a lot of red flags in our direction, but considering she almost died Padme, I'm thinking about putting the offer on the table for her."
"We're not even legally married! You can't just go and adopt your padawan like that Anakin!"
"Then what if you did?"
Padme rubbed her temples and sighed.
"You're out of your mind Anakin! How would that look, huh? A senator adopting a 14 year old Jedi Padawan?"
He let out a heavy sigh as he laid back against some pipes. She had a point.
"What if I just come out and tell her? She knows I would never lie to her Padme."
"Alright. Lets say she does listen to you. What are you going to do if she rejects the offer?"
"What if she doesn't? What then? Huh? We can be an actual family! I know just how much you love her. Look what you went through for her on Naboo when I almost lost both of you."
Padme nodded. He was right, from a certain point of view. Their secret wouldn't feel like a burden raising a daughter. She was pulled from her thoughts when she heard him speak.
"Listen, I just had an idea that makes perfect sense. I've gotta go for a bit though. I'll see you when I get home soon, alright?"
"Alright Anakin. Be careful."
"Snips, can we talk about something?" he asked, knocking on her door.
The door unlocked and he stepped in cautiously. Seeing her sitting on the bed with her knees against her chest made him worry.
"Are you okay Snips?" he asked, kneeling down beside her. She shook her head.
"Is it that time again?"
She nodded slowly and timidly. He slowly sat beside her on the bed and gently place his hand across her back and on her far shoulder. She leaned into his shoulder, curling up against him like a Loth cat.
"I'm sorry Snips. I wish you didn't have to go through this." he said, resting his head between her lekku as he gently laid on the bed and pulled her onto his chest. This was all the more reason he needed to ask her. That way she wouldn't have to grow up without a mother. Someone that could help her through this better than he ever could.
She laid on his chest, enjoying the warmth and comfort he brought her as a tear fell down her cheek. Before too long, she was sound asleep, peaceful and safe. Only Anakin could provide that for her.
On board the Twilight, Ahsoka was curious where they were going. He had been very dodgy about his answer to her, only saying that she'd find out once they were under way. And being true to his word, once they were in hyperspace, he came clean.
"I'm sorry this had to come about this time, but how would you like to take on my last name?"
"Wait... WHAT!?"
"Subtlety has never been one of your strong points Anakin." Obi-Wan's voice echoed in his head.
"Hang on a sec. Not like that Snips. Like adoption. How would you feel about me and Padme adopting you?"
Everything was spinning faster than lightspeed. Ahsoka passed out in her seat, falling to the side as Anakin dove to catch her. He gently carried her to the back of the ship and asked the medical droid for assistance.
"What seems to be the problem?"
"14 year old female Togruta on her period fainted after I asked her something life-changing. I just want to make sure I didn't throw her body into shock."
The droid scanned her and gave its diagnosis.
"She will be fine. Just keep her comfortable until she wakes up, then make sure she drinks some water. Dehydration is a concern."
When she came around, Ahsoka found herself in a bed in the back of the Twilight and Anakin sitting in a chair in the corner with a cup beside him.
"It's okay Snips, I got you. You're going to be okay." he said, coming to the side of the bed.
She took the cup from him and happily drank from it.
"What happened?"
"You fainted on me. Don't worry, you're okay. It was probably a mix of hormones and dehydration."
Her face turned 5 shades of red darker and same thing for her montrals and lekku.
"It's nothing to be embarassed about Ahsoka. You're just a normal girl. I could never hold it against you."
"Thank you master."
He smiled at her before asking her the question again.
"What do you think about me and Padme adopting you as our daughter?"
"Wait! Padme's in on this!?"
"It's a bit complicated, but..."
"I knew you were having an affair!"
Anakin went pale.
"An affair? Ahsoka, we're married to each other!"
Ahsoka's jaw dropped. She knew something was fishy about her, but she never would have guessed THAT!
"I..."
"It's okay. I'm sorry I've been so distant lately. That was the reason for it. We were debating if we could or should adopt you as ours."
"Skyguy, I'm already yours as it is! I always have been! Ever since you accepted me back on Christophsis."
Anakin felt the weight of her words. She spoke from her heart. That big, beautiful, loving heart of hers. She was right. She had always been his. Maybe not in name, but in everything else, she was his daughter.
"Well then, do you want to make it official? In the eyes of the Republic I mean?"
She lunged forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, squeezing him as her mind went wild.
"Of course I do!!!"
Padme heard the doorbell ring and C3PO answered it. She turned around as she heard the sound of running coming toward her, the shock of seeing Ahsoka barreling toward her causing her to freeze in place.
"MOM!! I'm home!!" Ahsoka shouted as she sqeezed Padme with all she had in her.
"Mom?" Padme and C3PO said at the same time.
"Dad told me everything and I accept! Did you think I wouldn't?"
"I uh... Well... I uh...." Padme stammered, her mind racing as everything overwhelmed her. She took a minute to try and compose herself before saying anything else. "Master Skywalker..."
"Dad!" Ahsoka interupted earnestly. "I know you two are married."
Anakin just smirked at them before crossing his arms.
"I asked her if she wanted to help make this family official and she couldn't say yes fast enough."
"The Jedi Order...." Padme started to say before getting cut off.
"They're not important. This is." he said, gesturing to the two of them. "SHE is." he finished, kissing Ahsoka's forehead.
Padme looked at the Togruta girl in front of her then back at Anakin.
"Honestly, I always hoped this day would come. Welcome home Ahsoka Tano Skywalker."
"I'M FINALLY A FATHER!!"
