Marian Hawke joined the Theodesian military when she was nineteen, leaving her twin brother Garrett in Kirkwall. Ten years later she is discharged due to an accident that leaves her partially disabled. Insisting she move into his apartment, Garrett must adjust to life with his twin while she tries to figure out who she is outside of the military. Marian soon becomes a part of the Hawke "Merry Band of Misfits" and becomes initiated into civilian life thanks to a snarky author, a Rivaini bar owner, a Tevene tattoo artist, and cat loving veterinarian student.
